Another pretty old tutorial but it has many pictures and gets you hacking right away. This tutorial uses Hex Workshop Thingy Tile Layer Pro Zelda II ROM Final Fantasy (J) ROM Relative Searcher It explains that hex corresponds to letters. It assumes that there is a full alphabet and relative searching will always work. How to make a table file. Lastly translating from Cave Speech. This tutorial is presented better then many of the other early tutorials, but it only covers the basics.
