| Never played the original, but this is great! | Sosuko | 2020-08-28 | Version B20120716 |
I don't have experience with the original game this remake is based on, but I still had a great time playing through this one! The level design is solid and the difficulty progression feels just right. There were also some pretty easy to find hidden block 1-Ups in some of the more difficult stages, which helps with not having to restart the world and plays the first stage(s) over and over. Hudson/the creator of this hack did a great job with all of this, and I'd highly recommend this one to any fans of the original SMB!
| This is a good "remake" of the original | diablo666 | 2020-03-14 | Version B20120716 |
The original SMB Special - had a very awkward control, strange parallax screens and playing it on a real device - can hurt your eyes. But we're talking about a hack, so let's move on to it. The palette is normal for the hack. There is no such thing as irritating the eyes. The levels are transferred qualitatively, 1 to 1. HOWEVER, there is one bonus stage that - getting there, YOU do not get out of it... We'll have to wait until the time comes to zero. These levels are interesting and unusual in their own way. Due to the limitations of the original - there are no certain bonuses and enemies, but this does not particularly interfere with the game, but it is a pity. After passing this hack, the game says that you are a "Super player" and "Hudson Soft has disappeared" A Good Port-Remake. I recommend it to everyone for review.
| An almost perfect product-improved "port" of the PC-88 game | Burningtrash4heat | 2020-02-09 | Version B20120716 |
This is a nearly perfect conversion of the PC-88 version of Super Mario Bros Special. The levels, color palettes and most of the mechanics are very faithful to the original. Differences include: ·Horizontal screen scrolling, which wasn't present in the PC-88 version. ·The music and gameplay are not laggy. ·A few powerful and enemies are missing from the PC-88 version. If this hack ever gets an update, it would be cool to see crabs, p-wings and hammers return. (Edit: Found a major glitch in 4-3, the "Coin Heaven" room exit pipe is broken. No way out.)
| Looks Good | BigDipper | 2019-10-02 | Version B20120716 |
Looks good except for one thing. Last screenshot looks like Luigi. The text says Mario
| Awesome!!! | Szemigi | 2018-02-26 | Version B20120716 |
I love the familiar scheme of the original X1 feeling, which makes me play this suddenly. The palette is cool as well as well as the title for example and this hack definitely says "Come and play!". As somebody else said, I do that so myself, too that it is highly recommended to play!
| Awesome stuff! | Bonkers! | 2016-05-06 | Version B20120716 |
Superb hack! Any self respecting fan of the original Super Mario Bros. games would be loony to pass this up!
| The changes are great | MathUser2929 | 2012-11-27 | - |
The changes made by this hack to the original SMB Special for NES hack are great. The new graphics and palette make it feel like a new game. The level select option is great so you don't have to restart the game when you lose all your lives. It's also fun to be able to do the pipe entering cutscene on your own. I know this hack may be obsolete if these features are incorporated into future versions of the original SMB Special for NES hack but this is a good update for now. Highly reccomended as it helps make for a closer experience to the original X1 game.
