Super Metroid (JU) [!].smc - GOODSNES 2.04Hack description
This is a complete Super Metroid hack, that alone makes it worth playing. It features new maps, layouts, item placements, and enemy placements. The areas in the beginning are similar to the originals, the farther you advance the more it changes. The difficulty is about the same as the original, and the puzzles are decent. There is a minor glitch where parts of the map won't be displayed when reloading your save.Screenshots

| A Fantastic New Game That Feels Like the Original | thunder135 | 2017-11-09 | Version 1.06 |
This game is an absolute delight to play. It's a brand new game, with a new map and new item placements, but in the spirit of the original. It almost recreated the feeling I had playing the original SM for the first time. I'd say it is slightly more challenging. This is an early one, so don't expect any fancy ASM programming, hand-drawn sprites etc. I think the effort is better spend on level design anyway. Advanced techniques are NOT required to complete the game. Here's a short (but incomplete) list of techniques you will not need.
However, to get 100% items you may need some of these, but probably not mockball since that's a really a glitch. So if you find yourself wall jumping to advance, that probably means you missed an item. Unlike the original, shinespark is required. Fortunately none are very difficult and you are given plenty of room to dash. If you think you need to do mockball, try a horizontal shinespark instead. Item progression is well done. The game gives you subtle hints as to where to go next and what items you need. I got stuck a couple of times and struggled to find the next item, but once I found the next path, it seemed obvious in retrospect. I remember this happening a couple times in the original too. One downside – the map screen gets messed up once you get to the wrecked ship. Nothing game-breaking, but you won't be able to tell what rooms you've been to anymore. That discouraged me from trying to get 100%. In summary, a straightforward hack with fantastic level design. Give it a try!
| GREAT hack | robneal81 | 2015-02-26 | Version 1.06 |
Challenging, but not too hard - I hate impossible fanhacks. Also, I never use savestates and this game has reasonable save points, making it fun to play on real hardware. You can beat it in under 7 hours, 8 if you'd like to do some exploring (I finished it in just under 7 hours with 70% of the items and no real exploring). The downside is it's very linear: You pretty much go from one achievement to another, without exploring, since all of the places to explore require items you don't have yet. It's not until the very end where you have the freedom to go anywhere. I still found it pretty fun though. Important tip: If you're stuck, bomb and shoot everything...and try to find "hidden walls", including in the ceilings. If you see anything out of place, or if you're in an odd dead end, hit every corner of the room and the previous few rooms. Example: I got stuck in the first 5 min and all I had to do was shoot a bottom-corner of a room and drop down.
| Super Hidden Items and Special Techniques Required | gamerzone | 2013-09-19 | - |
This hack is frustrating. You have to frequently use special techniques like bomb jump and wall jump to travel over obstacles. It relies too much on the use of such techniques that it ruined the immersion for me. Some of the items are also super hidden. There absolutely no clues revealing their location. Without out such clues, you would have to search every nook and cranny for some the power-ups. Good luck trying to find hidden passages. How many players are patient enough to do a jump, roll into a ball in midair, and bomb the featureless ceiling every step? It would be better if the x-ray scope was accessible earlier in the game.

So I'm a little late when it comes to this hack, but I feel it deserves another recommendation. It starts out very similar to the original, but changes wildly once you get into the meat of the hack. It uses all the same areas you know, but does them different. This is also one of the few hacks that has a very similar difficulty to the original. It won't make you pull your hair out because you keep dying to way over powered enemies. So besides those good points it also truly has 100% item collection, which is sometimes hard to find in a Super Metroid hack. So you really know how well you did when it comes to collecting your upgrades. One downside. The map has some issues. It is mentioned that saving your game and reloading from that will cause some problems. Also, there is at least one map error where the map doesn't line up quite right. The positives outweigh the negatives by far. This is one of the fun hacks to play, and if you like Super Metroid, you should give Legacy a go around. No other hack I've played feels so close to the original when changing the entire layout of the game. This won't be the hack that leaves you stunned speechless. It is a pretty early hack for Super Metroid, and as such is a little dated by what you may see around nowadays. But it is one of those hacks I recommend you play, especially if you are just getting in to playing Super Metroid hacks. There are few beginner friendly hacks. This is one of them.
| Wonderful | VShadowLanceV | 2010-09-09 | - |
I have played the 1.06 version of Metroid Legacy and have to say that it is a work of art! The entire game has been redone and its like playing a brand new Metroid game. All items have been replaced and all the maps have been completely redone. I found only one problem with the game and that is it one or two parts the screen doesn't scroll with you when it should and you have to move back and forth to make it do so but that made no difference to me. I highly recommend Metroid Legacy for any one who is a Metroid fan and Google image has a full map with all the items on it for this version also.
| Best Hack I've Played. | kolbykolbykolby | 2010-01-31 | - |
I've been playing this nonstop for a day and a half. Had I not gotten it from this site, I'd\'ve believed this was made by the people who developed the original Super Metroid. It isn't impossible to play, but it adds a fresh and enjoyable challenge for those looking for a new twist on an old classic. I recommend that anyone who likes Super Metroid play this.

I haven't been playing it that long, but I liked it so much. The more it pisses me off, the more I appreciate it making me go around and look for things. It shows a very good effort, and a great knowledge of hacking, especially with the new map. I hardly recognized anything as it was in the beginning. I cannot wait to finish it.
