| Megaman in the Mushroom Kingdom - OKAY | Dobu_GM | 2024-01-20 | Version 1.0 |
Mega Man in the Mushroom Kingdom Levels: Okay Graphics: Good Music: No Change Enemies: No Change Bosses: Okay (damage tweaks) Weapons: No Change Castle: Bad Difficulty: EASY Comments: Perhaps I've played one too many hacks, but one of the nice things about Mushroom Kingdom is that it's mostly inoffensive. Sprites are ripped straight from the Mario series so the hack looks alright; the best part about the new visuals is seeing which Mario baddies replace which Mega Man ones. Stage design is also mostly fine—due to the Mario influence, there are a lot of random blocks to platform across, but scant few spikes and pits to actually kill you. The gentle use of insta-death and enemy spam makes Mushroom Kingdom one of the easiest Mega Man hacks I've played, which can be good or bad depending on what you're in the mood for. Unfortunately once you get to the Wily Castle the author mostly gives up and keeps it the same. So play if you like the graphics, don't if you want something good, substantial, or rewarding.
| Not good enough | LSM | 2022-03-04 | Version 1.0 |
Well, Mega Man crossing into the Mario world is a good idea. But it's a mixture hack because they imitate lots of Mario games. Including jump height parameters and graphics. Also, they remove the ready timer. Yeah, it's a plus point. But in my opinion, it's not good enough because the level design is rough. Somewhere in the Elecman stage, you don't surprise at dying after hitting the Electricity Thrower. Also, when you die after passing mid-checkpoint in the Iceman stage. You will find enemies are messy and irregular on the whole screen. By the way, some background is weird. If they can rework in the future, I think it could be better.
| Megaman (1) in the Mushroom Kingdom - Buggy, but playable | diablo666 | 2022-02-25 | Version 1.0 |
This hack is considered a simpler version of the original Megaman 1. On the one hand, yes. Here we simplified some stages, made it easier to fight bosses. But on the other hand, there are bugs in this hack. There are not scary ones (after a reboot, there are some enemies on the location), but there are those that can really interfere (Buggy character locks, ZEROING THE GAME BEFORE THE START SCREEN). I was lucky and I passed the hack completely. The levels turned out to be interesting and good, and, as they say: Honest to the player. And I was able to enjoy the hack, even though the second half of the hack represents simplified levels of the original Mega Man. The first half of the levels in the hack are redesigned in their own way, but not particularly complicated. On the contrary it seemed a little easier. With the graphical part of the hack - in fact, it could have been better. However, even looking now - it looks decent (although they can do better now) I can recommend this hack, because it is made interestingly and in its own way correctly and qualitatively. But there is a but: "Beware - BUGS!"
| A good idea that was pretty fun, but could be a whole lot better....... | Supergamerguy | 2020-07-26 | Version 1.0 |
I can't recommend this hack at this point in time, the art design is really good and the levels are relatively fun to play through, but this hack suffers from extreme slowdown at certain points and random glitches at others. I would totally recommend this hack if those were able to be fixed, but I still wouldnt consider it the definitive version. If the Robot Masters were changed into something like the Koopalings and Dr Wily was changed into Bowser, that would make this an amazing hack. Still waiting 4 years later for another update.......
| So I played this hack the other day | Googie | 2020-02-10 | Version 1.0 |
This was a great idea back in the old days of Acmlm, but this hack never got updated. Now that I played it again after all these years, I can do without Mega Man being different colors, he should've had his default palette. And this hack is so buggy, I wish I can enjoy this hack but it's so riddled with bugs. And the four Wily levels aren't even edited, I was really disappointed in that. I really wish that the author would come back and fix this hack, but I doubt that very much. It's amazing how much this hack is all over the place like on YouTube, cart selling sites etc. I wish that someone with Mega Man expertise would take this hack and fix it up, it feels 80% done. The concept is cool, I have to give it that. But it really needs to be fixed. Play this hack if you want to go through it, it's a nice little ride. But we really need/deserve a 2.0 of this hack.

Mega Man in mushroom kingdom is a interesting idea, complete with gameplay and graphical changes to make it feel more like platformer like Super Mario games. But does it hold up nowdays? Well... not really. Level design is... ok. I find increased jump height to be a nice addition and changes Mega Man's platforming in a good way. Bosses made easier (mostly) is also welcome for casual players. Though i don't like some enemy placement, some levels feel a bit empty, and i don't know why "enemies appear from 4 screens" even occur - not sure if it can be fixed by remaking this hack with modern tools, and i'm not sure if "Super Ultra Cool Mega Features" section supposed to be ironic, but i find issues mentioned to be major problems that should not exist in any hack of any kind. Slowdown doesn't depend on computer power (well, unless emulator itself lags). Someone menioned slowdown for seemingly no reason, and i noticed it myself. Yeah, slowdown can be pretty bad, but it's not very frequent. Strange collision in classic level, thankfully i didn't become stuck. If i had to choose between original mega man and this hack, i'd say i prefer this hack's design, but with a grain of salt, actual design isn't so bad, it's glitches that boil it all down. Presentation is... meh. Some graphics look nice (i like sky level in that regard), others not so much. Worse yet, there are plenty of graphical glitches, like glitchy boss doors (1 2 3), glitchy sprites (example), glitchy shake, complete with ugly visuals towards the end (1 2 3). Weapon menu with icons representing, well, weapons sounds useful... but bad palette choices make it hard to indentify what's what, sometimes almost impossible. Overall, i don't recommend this hack. It certainly shows it's age, with lots of glitches, outdated visuals and ok at best design. And it's a dam shame, idea is excellent, and i like some gameplay tweaks, it could've turned into a solid mega man platformer. But alas, what we have is a broken mess.
| A interesting take on two classics. | Kallisto | 2017-02-05 | Version 1.0 |
This romhack is actually quite balanced, and a fun fusion of two different classics melded into one. I felt though more could have been done to give this unique romhack a bit more "mario rather than Megaman" in terms of gameplay, but I can understand there are limitations to what can be done. There is a few graphical glitches here, and there (this could be due to Snes9x GX, so I can't say for sure), but it occasionally shows up. If you were to get defeated by Yellow Devil..well get ready for some graphical glitchy creepy pasta afterwards, but it clears up if you defeat him. I definitely can recommend this romhack if you want something out of the ordinary, but don't expect too much from it.
| Too many odd glitches, but playable | FrankensteinsRobot | 2013-09-02 | - |
This hack is a great idea and very unique, however it suffers from way to many glitches. Please refer to megaman_powered_down's initial review of this hack as it states the majority of glitches. I've also uncovered more glitches that can be incredibly frustrating: If you beat the "Subcon" level (Cutman) and then proceed to "Dinoland" (Fireman) and if you lose all lives in this level it will send you back to the title screen, losing all progress. If you beat the "Subcon" level (Cutman) and then proceed to "Plains" (Bombman) and if you lose all lives in this level it will send you back to the title screen, losing all progress. This may happen in other patterns as well, I have not checked every level-beating pattern! Please keep this in mind when playing Mega Man in the Mushroom Kingdom!
| Nice fusion. However... | megaman_powered_down | 2011-01-09 | - |
Not so nice, unfortunately. OK, so what do we have here? Mega Man got himself thrown into Mario's universe. At first glance, the hack looks very nice. Most of graphics were imported properly, and fits into the enemies. The hack makes bosses much easier to beat and changes terrain in some cases (the Ice man and Cut man boss battles). But they are easier to beat, and this is a really good thing, to me at least. Mega Man can also jump higher! That's also a good thing. Thanks to that, I was able to escape death few times. Level design here is... well... it depends. Some levels are really good, but others literally make you cry, bite your keyboard or pad. The bad thing is, that you can exploit extra life gains on some levels; This destroys the curve of difficulty. Sad to say, but this game has some glitches: In the "Retro Kingdom" level, I somehow drowned in the water (i was pushed to the bottom of the screen), also in some levels enemies like to spawn at your position... that's not cool. Always when I entered to boss battle room, there was glitches left(door often changes patterns) But there's another big problem, major slowdown. Sometimes, when there's even not enemies game likes to run slow... About the glitches...My game reset after losing my life in 1st Wily stage...another glitch? This hack is probably only addressed to Mega Man fans, not NES fans, or gamers. Because of it's strange glitches... Pluses:
