Hack description

This is a hack of the JP version of Megaman 2 called Rockman 2 - Dr. Wily no Nazo. It changes the weapons, boss behavior, and level design. Included are two additional patches for any version of Rockman 2 which remove the main weapon use and start the player with all special weapons. An additonal patch starts the player off with less special weapon energy. Secondary patches do not apply Yendor Code's changes, and thus can be used on any copy of RM2.

Not My Cup of TeaRonco2023-07-12Version 1.02

I appreciate all of the elbow grease and wildly innovative ideas, but I gotta be honest. I'm not very fond of most of the enemy and boss design. I didn't really mind most of the Robot Masters and I liked the fact that the much harder refights are completely optional, but there are just so many parts of the game where the player gets bullied. In my opinion, it's not like every hit is "my fault". I think that's a very rude addressment, like telling someone it's "their fault" if they can't handle sriracha sauce.

Prophetic of the Chinese 'Mega Man 2' hacks that would come in the future, most of the enemies behave like a hard mode CPU fighter in Super Smash Bros. It feels more like they were designed to taunt the player rather than provide a decent challenge. With that said, the Shotman who does nothing until you shoot it is not much of a problem to me since it requires patience, but the one who switches angles every millisecond is nothing short of irritating, especially when you have to get close to it. The Claws (crabs) stalk and snipe you, and they come in large numbers later in the game. The Robbits are fine until they start spamming carrot missiles, and when teamed up with the springy Battons, they make for quite a devastating encounter. The Battons by themselves are already a pain, since their behavior allows them to constantly stay out of your line of fire. My goodness, the Scworm generators are like a tennis ball machine that won't leave you alone; VERY frustrating, with or without weapons. Most of the Hot Dogs shoot in such a way that you have to squeeze between fireballs very carefully or risk getting hit. The Shrinks are mildly frustrating, but the time between them going in and out of the pit isn't too bad. The Kerogs spam Petit Kerogs every time you shoot them. The Pierobots give me sensory overload, especially when they start ambushing the player with their cogs. The Sniper Joes shoot so frequently that it's difficult to land a shot without getting hit, and the Sniper Armors are like weaponized sports cars.

As mentioned earlier, I did not have much of an issue with the Robot Masters because they die quickly to their weaknesses, except for Flash Man. He forces you to squeeze between his bullets that will unexpectedly speed up, and the bullets themselves do 6 damage. Combined with the reduced i-frames, it's very easy to die quickly to this guy, even with his weakness. As for the fortress bosses, most of them are problematic. The pieces of the Yellow Devil/Picopico-kun hybrid move WAY too fast, and the finished mini robots spend very little time on-screen. Constantly switching between Air Shooter and Atomic Fire during the Guts Tank battle was tiresome, so I found it simpler to tank hits while using Atomic Fire. The Boobeam crystals are... well, what you'd expect from a Touhou boss. The Alien's fight was very enjoyable, aside from two attacks: The "white orb spread attack", which was too fast for me to dodge, and the "walls of bullets" attack, which once again involves squeezing through.

Tldr: The level design was very immersive and entertaining, especially Wily 4's level design, and the weapons are good, but the bosses are hit or miss and the enemies are some of the most blood-thirsty I've seen in a 'Mega Man 2' romhack. For the very advanced players, I would recommend it, but for more casual players, I suggest 'Rockman 6: Unique Harassment' instead. All of the bosses in this hack are very ambitious, and finding a starting Robot Master can be tough (I think Tomahawk Man is the easiest starting point) but there are also several items and upgrades to even things out when the going gets tough. I did not receive the same treatment in 'Rockman 2 Yendor Code'.

Weaknesses: Crash Man = Time Slow, Heat Man = Crash Bomb, Metal Man = Atomic Fire, Air Man = Metal Blade, Wood Man = Air Shooter (if positioned right, Wood Man can be blown into the air and take fall damage), Bubble Man = Leaf Shield, Quick Man = Bubble Lead, Flash Man = Quick Boomerang.

Rockman 2: Yendor Code! A lot of work, even...diablo6662021-11-10Version 1.02

...despite the fact that the graphic part of the game was not touched.

In the game, their AI was completely changed to enemies, bosses. They have become more cunning, angrier and the approach to victory is completely different than before.

Enemies, in addition to AI changes, were introduced such that had not previously appeared separately from some factor. For example: Small birds or enemies coming out of a large cube with horns. The birds are small - they appeared only after the destruction of the egg, and then by separate enemies. It's the same with enemies from the big cube.

Some enemies have become mini bosses. Examples: a cube with horns, a monkey jumping on a Nut, a huge fish (2 phases of attacks).

The changes were also made during the "invulnerability" from damage. She became a maximum of 2 seconds. As they say: it's a long way to rest. The abilities were completely changed in favor of the complexity of the Gameplay.

The levels are remade competently, but there are dishonest moments. However, there are such types of levels as: Puzzle Sections, High-speed Sections, a Section with complex Platforming, a Section with tests.

Why do I Recommend this hack?

  • 1. For honest, albeit difficult levels
  • 2. Diverse behavior of enemies and ALL BOSSES
  • 3. Remade abilities and items for the created conditions for the player.
  • 4. An interesting pitch and a supposedly ordinary wrapper to hide all the potential inside

P.S. I completely forgot about such a fact as "Skip Boss Rush". In this hack - in the penultimate level - there is a "Boss Rush" again with 8 Robomasters. You can try (BUT THEY ARE MUCH MORE DANGEROUS than they were in the early stages), or you can immediately log in to the Wily Machine. In the first case, you can see how much stronger you have become, and in the second case, it saves energy, nerves and time before the final boss. THE ONLY HACK that gives a chance is to go straight to the main boss, and not to go through the old ones.

A super unique remixSosuko2021-06-27Version 1.02

Looking much like the original, Rockman 2: Yendor Code really blew me away with how many differences lied beneath the surface. Each level is wonderfully crafted with their own unique theme and though enemies may look the same at first, almost all of them are supped up with new patterns and abilities that will keep you on your toes. Best of all, each Robot Master has been completely overhauled to provide a truly engaging fight where your skill and strategy will shine through. In nearly all cases, you can prevail with just the buster with enough perseverance.

The weapons are all much more interesting and useful than their original game counterparts, and often will act as strict weaknesses for certain bosses. Sure, some will have higher damage, but they are often tied for that damage with another weapon. As another example, though Air Man's weapon does no damage to Bubble Man, it will immediately destroy the several bubbles he throws around the stage, which makes the fight significantly easier. Finally, the items have all been changed up as well, providing you with a moving platform, a "dash-type" ability, and even a skateboard that you'll need to use in the Wily stages to ride over spikes.

As others have mentioned, the Wily stages do get pretty brutal at points, but the bosses are spectacular. Relatively boring bosses like the security drones and the boobeams have been completely changed up to high octane fights that allow you to use all of your weapons to come out on top after multi-phase fights. The final boss also really shines and demonstrates complexity on par with several of the final Wily fights in later Megaman games. The programming work done here is phenomenal overall and makes Yendor Code well worth a play despite its difficulty

Rockman 2: Yendor Code - EXCELLENTDobu_GM2019-04-24Version 1.02

Rockman 2: Yendor Code

Levels: Excellent

Graphics: Okay (No Change)

Music: No Change

Enemies: Excellent

Bosses: Excellent

Weapons: Excellent

Castle: Excellent

Difficulty: HARD

Comments: Yendor Code is one of the most extensive hacks made for Rockman 2, massively changing the enemies and weapons. Some of the bosses feel like entirely new fights (Air Man, Flash Man, Boobeam) and some of the weapons have changed so dramatically that they feel more useful than even Metal Blade (Wood Shield, Flash Stopper). The stage design is superb, keeping the game challenging while rarely needing to spam the screen with spikes (and when that does happen, it's still really well done). The only downside to the hack (besides its sharp difficulty) is that the old graphics and music make it seem like it's a mere remix of Mega Man 2, belying just how many changes lurk beneath the surface. Yendor Code is a must play for any Mega Man 2 fan that can withstand a harsh beating.

I will say this experience was somewhat more different compared to Rockman No Constancy, but this time was very positive despite the nasty difficulty spikes towards the end of the romhack.

1) The bosses are given a huge boost in power, and strategy, so it will take more than just bashing them with just the weakness weapon.

2) The stages go from mildly hard to extremely hard toward the end, and I only found Wily Stage 2 to be somewhat bad in stage design due to the fact that the extra weapons are kind of hard to control which is need to cross the spike pit.

3) The Wily bosses can be pretty frustrating, and will require save scumming for the normal player.

At certain points in the game I was kind of forced to use save states due to the fact I'm just not a good enough player, and I could not blame how the romhack was this time since there was nothing really wrong with it except the Wily Stage 2, and it's boss.

Overall this romhack for expert players, but just be prepared to save in certain spots if you're not confident enough.

Unique, creative, but nastily hardNARFNra2014-02-22-

Yendor Code is a slightly lesser known hack by the creator of Rockman 5 Air Sliding, and like AS uses the original game's graphics and music with heavy ASM changes. Though it may look and sound similar, Yendor Code is a far different game. The difficulty is much higher, bosses and enemies are completely redesigned, and perhaps most importantly, the weaponry acts quite differently.

Simply put, Yendor Code is a game that expects you to start out good and become better just to progress. Getting your first weapon is tough, and even though the new weapons are rather powerful you will likely still struggle to learn your way through each stage. The difficulty somehow manages to continue to escalate as this goes on, leading to one of the toughest Skull Fortresses in Rockman history.

Whether or not you should play this hack really comes down to a personal preference; Are you willing to die a few hundred times for the sake of an interesting new experience? If so, then Yendor Code is the hack for you. Otherwise, it may be best to pass this one up or use savestates.

As a note, the "Omake" patches which start you off with all weapons function for any Rockman 2 rom and most hacks. It's a fun new way to experience the game and adds a bit of replay value to the patch as a whole. If you don't like the main hack itself, then I highly suggest trying those out instead.

Very unique ideas, but EXTREMELY difficult.Satoshi_Matrix2013-02-22-

Yender Code is easily one of the hardest Rockman 2 ROM hacks of all, and I've played a good number of them.

It has some truly interesting and unique ideas including entirely new boss fights, as well as adding in new weapons, stage layouts and traps.

There's a lot of thoughtful design in Yender Code, but I can't stress the difficulty enough.

This is one you'll need savestates to play though. I wish the game were easier and therefore more playable on the real hardware, but even so this is not a hack to be missed.
