Metroid (U) (PRG0) [!].nes - NOINTROHack description
This is a hack of the original game Metroid. It still preserves the best of Metroid but gets a new twist that still feels much like the original. The game still uses the same rooms as in the original Metroid. but with a completely different map. The brother game to Metroid Adventure, Super Metroid 8-Bit uses the same map (basically) but different rooms themed after rooms in Super Metroid.Screenshots

There are a few points on this hack that I really want to touch on, some good and some bad. Adventure doesn't do anything for graphics, which is neither a positive or negative for me. It is a brand new layout, and I was completely lost once again. Pros:
Cons:
There are a couple of things to mention about the cons. It may have been a conscience decision to not have an item in those locations so the player explored it more thoroughly. The doors in the wall is only in a couple of places, and sometimes it probably couldn't be helped without some reworking of the games' code. The enemy placement is an issue the original Metroid had, so you can't really dock the hack too much for that, but it would be nice if it was fixed in hacks. The perma-stucks actually deal with doors in walls. Some paths are one way, and those drop you off on the "other side" of a wall. But they don't quite work as intended. If you keep running the same direction, you go past the wall and all is well. I stopped in one door after the transition, and morphed and was at that point completely stuck. I will also say that this is one of the first Metroid hacks I have finished, and the difficulty that most seem to just throw into these is pretty much absent in this hack. Pretty much feels like the original Metroid. Energy Tanks may be a bit harder to find, but otherwise the hack was still "average" difficulty, which is a good thing. I would recommend this hack for a couple of reasons. You will be lost, but it won't be so hard you want to pull your hair out. There isn't anything completely crazy in this hack that will turn you off. And eventually, you will get your mind around where you are at, and the hack will become easier to traverse. Another nice touch is Ice Beam is near to Tourian. You don't have to go all over the place looking for it to survive the Metroids. Metroid Adventure was an enjoyable a play. A couple of annoying spots where I wanted to find items that weren't there. Overall though, it is worth checking out. | |||
