| Rockman 5: Air Sliding - EXCELLENT | Dobu_GM | 2022-04-12 | Version 2.01 |
Rockman 5: Air Sliding Levels: Excellent Graphics: Okay (No change) Music: Okay Enemies: Okay (Few changes) Bosses: Excellent Weapons: Excellent Castle: Excellent Difficulty: MEDIUM (Occasionally HARD in Dark Man/Wily Castles) Comments: Air Sliding is a superb hack that takes advantage of its unique gimmick to deliver a delectable challenge. It's not a consistently even hack unfortunately—the final bosses may require multiple E-tanks—but for the most part Air Sliding is very fair and very fun. The weapons and bosses have seen a significant overhaul, allowing them to feel unique and engaging (the new Gravity Hold is amazing!) And the titular air sliding becomes second nature as you adapt to it, letting Mega Man escape situations that would usually doom him. I cannot stress enough that the level design is excellent, blending a formidable amount of platforming with tricky enemy placement. While the hack unfortunately suffers from Yendor Code's major shortcoming (lack of new graphics), Air Sliding remains an enjoyable experience that adds plenty of freshness to Mega Man 5. Just be prepared for a few spikes in difficulty!
| Rockman 5: Air Sliding - The sensations are mixed, however... | diablo666 | 2021-11-09 | Version 2.01 |
...I got pleasure from the hack. I'll start with a huge minus, which will easily be interrupted by pluses: "Music is PURELY KIRBY games. And this is not a joke. All the music is taken from various games about KIRBY. We add bad remixes and in some - pain to the ears! It was unpleasant" Moments of 50-50: "Enemies - they are changed slightly, or they are not treason at all. But I can say for sure - they were not overdone" Now there are pluses.
Roevsky said that this hack is good. I partially agree. He wins in technical terms, rather than music. Therefore, for the efforts and implementation of an interesting hack - I recommend it. Because there is something to study, and it's good to play
| More than just air sliding | Sosuko | 2021-08-22 | Version 2.01 |
This hack provides a lot more than just a new fast mechanic in the form of air sliding (which in itself is pretty fun). Every weapon, boss, and many enemies have been changed to be more dynamic and challenging. Two stand out weapons for me were gravity hold, which can now be used to change your gravity at any time, and power stone, which functions a lot like the mega ball weapon from Megaman 8. The bosses all have various attacks and patterns that never feel too unfair, at least until you get go the Wily stages. Speaking of the final stages, there are some points of frustration that require tight air sliding across instant death obstacles and pits, but for the most part they can be beaten with some patience. Even though some of the bosses can be pretty rough, they do have very interesting designs and do a good job of mixing things up for veteran players looking for a challenge. Overall, this is a far more fast-paced and challenging version of Megaman 5 that I thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely highly recommend for any looking for something pretty different!
| Air Sliding is Awesome! | Zynk | 2013-02-27 | - |
This is a great hack! Graphics are basically the same with minor changes. The music needs more instruments. Some of the tunes I have heard with other Rockman hacks. If only there were references on what music was imported in the hack (and the others too) like Waveman Stage's music (I like that one), I could compare it with the original tunes but I don't know any of its origin. For the hack's music, its not all bad, just needs more instruments. As of game-play and level design, it's awesome! Utilizing the Air Sliding, esp. in Gravityman Stage, is simply great! The levels are well thought out, highlighting the main use of the Air Sliding! The difficulty is well-tuned as enemies are not that over-whelming and the obstacles are tricky but fair, and absence of save-states is a must (other than practicing fights against bosses). New abilities of weapons, esp. Gravity Hold, are spectacular; however, some weapons are basically useless for the rest of the game. I'm sorely disappointed with the modified Rush Coil, maybe changing it to Eddie in relevance to his absence through out the game (except for Fake Eddie). Boss fights are quite difficult with new battle patterns; some bosses have patterns and others are cheap like Gyroman! Look out for Wily Stage bosses and save a lot of E-cans! Overall, Rockman 5: Air Sliding is highly recommended!
