The hack is based off of CV Legends' Japanese release which has you wielding a sword as opposed to a whip. It also offers saves which is rather nice. Visual updates include player sprites, enemy sprites, and items. That last one is a much needed change because the original game's items made little logical sense. I used this alongside SilverX's speedhack and had no issues at all.

One thing that caught me off guard is that the "Mud Worm" enemy has been entirely replaced by a phallus. I do not get the point of this and neither the uploader nor other reviewers have mentioned this which is mindboggling considering that the enemy type is quite frequent. I suppose someone must've found it amusing but I found it rather unimmersive and intrusive. It was so egregious that I almost considered forgoing this hack entirely.

I thought it was necessary to point this out in case someone is hacking this for their kids or playing on a larger screen. Still wild to see how people reviewed this game and missed this!

Does this hack made Legends a great game? No. Does it make it better? Absolutely.

This is an ok hack. What's changed is good quality. It would be nice if more was changed but the later version of this hack seems to have disappeared from the internet. If anyone finds such a version I encourage you to submit it to the site.

When I stumbled upon this hack of the Japanese version of this game, I thought this would be another run of the mill Castlevania Legends hack like the others but I was in for a few surprises. Despite the game being in Japanese, it wasn't a hindrance to me as I knew the plot and menus well. Besides saving through SRAM as opposed to using passwords, there were enemy differences as well as the graphical upgrades of the stages and sprites of both Sonia & the enemies. Another cool thing is that she uses a sword, which was I think the original intent of the devs as much of her artwork depicts one at her side, as opposed to the traditional whip which kinda gets a little stale after a while.

In a way, this is the game we should've gotten here in the West and I give thanks to the romhacker who not only made the game a lot more bearable to play, but fun as well.
