So how DO you make something funny out of Super Metroid? Simple! Make the first upgrade come with a ridiculous number attached and have Kraid in serious need of some nausea meds!

THE WORLD: The world of Zebes is a little bit smaller this time around, but for the sake of this hack, it's actually quite welcome. Given that this one feels more like a joke hack, or at least something resembling a parody, then it's a joke that lasts just long enough to remain funny without overstaying its welcome. Most of the world looks about like the base game does, but a few are changed up nicely. My favorite was the Toxic Tank, which did look like some kind of chemical plant. I particularly liked that one for some reason.

GAMEPLAY: It's Super Metroid, but with you getting 575 Missiles from the start...need I say more? ^_~

FUN: Well heck yeah! I remember laughing a lot at this game and sometimes I'm not sure WHY I was! Something about it struck me as funny (probably that 575 missiles had something to do with it), and I just couldn't contain myself. Spore Spawn having the final boss music was also hilarious enough to me that I even made up a song about it. (Duhh duhh duhh duhduh duhh duhh OHHHHHHHHH!!!!! It's SPORE SPAWWWWWWN! HEEEEEE'S REALLY MAAAAAD! HE'S GONNA KILLLLL!)

MISSILES: 575, the best number in the universe

MY RATING: 575/10 It's funny and you get 575 Missiles. What more could you possibly want?

Okay, more seriously, it's pretty much just standard Super Metroid, but with you getting 575 missiles and a few important upgrades early. This is a relatively easy hack, but as said in the other review even, this is more for spoof's sake than a major new game. As I said before, it's a joke that hangs around long enough for you to appreciate it, but doesn't overstay it's welcome. So lock and load and start firing off some missiles....you probably won't run out anytime soon :}

Oxide is a mixed bag of weird and wacky, but it is all fun. This hack is very goofy, but in a good way. There is a single Missile expansion, the world names are extremely interesting. (Easy Norfair is an actual name in this hack.) The hack is not difficult at all, but I definitely recommend it. Your Super Metroid hack playing is not complete unless you play Oxide.

Pros:

• Very goofy in a good way
• Doesn't take itself too seriously
• Great use of original music to cause crazy sounds
• Hack is just fun to play

Cons:

• Perhaps a little too easy
• Not too much substance as far as exploration goes
• Too many doors are locked and only opened by all the enemies being destroyed

First things first, this hack is fun. That is the biggest thing I took away from it. Oxide quickly became one of my favorites after playing it due to its quirky and goofy style. And really, what more do you want from a hack than to enjoy it?

Oxide is full of silly little things, and one of the most memorable is the music choices in boss fights. Because some of the bosses use instruments from the song being played for their roars, changing those up caused some very interesting results, which include Barf Kraid as mentioned in the description.

Other things are just crazy as well, which means that overall, if you want a serious hack to play, don't bother with Oxide. It is fun, it has some really good ideas, but it is anything but serious. It is also pretty easy and does not provide much in the difficulty area. Exploring can be another matter, as there are some paths decently hidden.

Overall, this hack is just goofy and fun. Nothing serious about it. I highly recommend playing it and seeing for yourself.
