Phantasy Star II is one of my all time favorite games for its atmosphere, characters, story, music, and aesthetic, but the amount of grinding and difficulty are a very high barrier to replaying it. I've been following this project for years and it makes the game feel very much like PSIV. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who wants to like PSII but is intimidated by the challenge and tedium of grinding. To the patch author, if you can, please implement the fast walk mod into your hack. The 4.0 version was able to be patched with it, but it looks like the new 4.1 update is broken by applying it on top.

First of all - great work on continued improvement of the hack! I remember playing earlier versions - swords were a better option for Rolf in comparison to the equal quality knives, however, this time around swords do about the same damage as the equal dagger hit (cer dagger vs cer sword for example) is this by design or an oversight? While some techs got their cost decreased and potency improved, especially healing, other got increased without boosting their potency, Zan for example. Wat does barely more than foi while costing 4 tp. Before i could patch the "easy mode" hack on top of this for a x4 exp/mes, but now this doesn't work, probably due to new code. Would be nice to have x3 and x4 versions of the game added to the archive. Fast walking hack should probably added by default, unless it can be patched on top without issues. Everything else about the hack is great: new dialogues, gear rebalance, etc.
| Not a bad way to experience PSII for the first time. | Psxphile | 2020-05-20 | Version 4.0 |
Finished playing through this hack recently and enjoyed the reduction of grinding and other QoL features. Changing some of the chest contents so that you'll actually get worthwhile items was appreciated, too. Spacing out the characters in battle so that it mirrors PS4 was a fair idea, but I liked how they were oriented more toward the center in the original a little better. Only a little, mind. Giving newly-recruited characters a full set of equipment is a good idea, I appreciated that too. Whatever helps the player to reduce the need to grind and keep making steady progress is a plus. I even appreciated updating Nei's battle sprite so her ears aren't purple. Why was that even a thing? Weirdest thing was switching two of the town names, but in the end it doesn't really change much of anything and makes a certain level of sense. Hopefully the hack author will see fit to add other oft-requested features like faster walking and a camera scroll fix in any future updates, especially since this hack doesn't mix well with the smaller tweak patches.

I really like this hack, it makes things smoother. I only miss fast walk, and couple of things here and there, but I hope the author will continue improving it, making the best PS2 experience possible!
