Hack description

Rockman 3: Burst Chaser is a level & gameplay hack.

Aside from level edited stages, Burst Chaser's main feature is that Rockman moves faster!

The hack also has modified enemies & Robot Master AI's. Also, the hack offers 'new' music cut from other games as well as from popular animes.

Note that the patch is for Rockman 3 (JP version), NOT Mega Man III.

Rockman 3: Burst Chaser - Light, interesting, a little painful to the eyesdiablo6662022-03-08Version 1.0

Roevsky says this hack is good. I only partially agree.

The levels in the hack are honest, not annoying. They are easier to pass even than in the original MM3. Speed is a cheat thing, because it's very easy to dodge enemies.

The graphic part of the game was not touched. Just a palette. And, honestly, some levels because of such decisions with a palette - it hurt my eyes. Not the best palette presentation.

The music has been changed. In some levels it looks like, in some it doesn't.

Who is tired of heavy hacks? Here's the solution! I recommend it to everyone... even if he's not perfect.

A bit flawed, a bit boring, but nice and easy fun that most can enjoyDarkNeoSonic2022-03-07Version 1.0

So, Rockman 3: Burst Chaser is certainly a fast-paced hack, and that's not just including the new speeds Mega Man can move at. Everything in this hack moves faster to some degree; the bosses, the enemies, and even your life and energy instantly fill up to keep the pace going. I love the fast-paced nature of this hack and it keeps it going nicely with its ideas and level design. The aesthetics of the hack are nice, though it really is mostly just recolored tile sets from the base game. The music is nice, with remixes of songs from other games and media throughout, even if I couldn't recognize any of them myself. Where I think this game mostly shines though, is with its bosses.

Many of the bosses in this hack, while not substantially different from their vanilla counterparts, were a blast to learn and fight throughout my playthrough of the hack. For many of the bosses, I felt their patterns and attacks were changed up enough for them to feel fresh and fun as someone who's played the Mega Man games countless times. Even bosses that I used to detest in the original MM3 were done much better here and made to be actually fun to fight. The vast majority of the bosses felt fair and fun to battle, though the few that don't certainly stick out for their own reasons...

In particular, Doc Robot Flash Man, the Wily Machine and Gamma are the few bosses where I felt this hack fell short. Doc Flash wouldn't be as troublesome or difficult if it weren't for how fast he moved, and that he is able to quickly change direction when he jumps, which he does a lot of, usually right into you as you try to jump over him. With the combination of his speed and size, you're liable to keep getting rammed by him as you simply try to escape from him.

The Wily Machine's first phase I felt was fine, but the main problem I have is with the 2nd phase, that has been given an unneeded immunity to the standard Mega Buster. Though the main games aren't a stranger to doing so to some of their bosses, this isn't something I feel hacks should emulate in their design; it's a needless thing that leaves open the possibility of being forced to get a game over or grind due to lacking the ammo to fight them.

The same holds true for Gamma, who, in addition also packs an instant kill attack with his arm that he now uses far more frequently and has been considerably speed up to boot. A boss being immune to the buster is bad enough, but having an instant kill attack is just a form of fake difficulty if you ask me. These design choices made those battles needlessly more difficult and made for a less fun experience.

That said, aside from those bosses, the rest of the game holds up extremely well. Of note, the revisit to Gemini Man's stage makes excellent use of Rush Marine, a utility from the original game that I felt has always been quite underutilized. As a plus, the utility has infinite ammo, so there's no fear of it running out during that segment.

Aside from that however, the rest of the level design, while serviceable, wasn't overly memorable and a bit on the bland side at times. But I'll certainly take a game like this that can make somewhat boring, but perfectly fine and fun level design over something more unique, but also frustrating and overly punishing.

All in all, this game might not be the most noteworthy hack out there, but it more than certainly deserves a playthrough.

Exhilarating speed and paceSosuko2021-08-07Version 1.0

Burst Chaser is an incredibly fun hack that boosts the speed of Megaman 3 to a crazy amount, both in terms of Megaman's run speed and the speed of weapons/enemies. To support this change, it generally takes fewer shots to take out enemies, allowing you to quickly jump, slide, and blast your way through each screen in just a couple of seconds. The level design fully supports this enhanced speed, allowing you to jump large gaps and quickly slide under attacks and traps, without being mobbed by too many enemies at once. Boss fights are of course much faster as well, but with your extra speed, you're fully equipped to defeat them all with the buster. Though the speed up may make it seem daunting at first, the difficulty of the game is actually not any higher than the original Megaman 3, so both veterans and newcomers should be able to have a blast with this one!

Rockman 3 Burst Chaser

Levels: Good

Graphics: Okay (Palette change)

Music: Good

Enemies: Good

Bosses: Okay

Weapons: Okay (mostly sped up)

Castle: Okay

Difficulty: EASY-MEDIUM (largely EASY thanks to the amount of items everywhere)

Comments: Burst Chaser adds a major tweak that changes everything: speed. Both Mega Man and his enemies have received a shot of adrenaline, making the hack less about memorization and more about reacting quickly. Playing at blazing fast speeds is a lot of fun, though it can make some levels feel short and a bit anti-climactic. Reaction time is prioritized over strategic thinking, especially since many of the enemies can be killed in a single hit. Burst Chaser is a cool experience that —while not as impressive as a lot of other hacks — makes up for its shortcomings by being fast and fun to blast through.

A RevolutionMother Kojiro2017-12-02Version 1.0

This hack gives Mega Man a nitro boost, increasing his walking, climbing, and even shooting speed. The weapons are just about the same, but the colors are different, and they fly a lot faster. The increased speed requires increased skill, of course, but it flows so very well. The level design is mostly great, but there are a few flubs now and again, like the beginning of Hard Man's stage, where there's a jump that's spaced just so you can't make it, and have to resort to using Rush Coil. Speaking of Rush, though, there are a few underwater sections, and now, Rush Marine has unlimited fuel, so you can really enjoy it; I sure did! Visually, the levels are neat, but only occasionally did they really jump out at me, like the mint-colored waterfalls in Shadow Man's stage, and the green sewer in the first Wily Stage. There's all new music, which does throw in some great tunes, like Man With the Machine Gun from Final Fantasy 8, Flash in the Dark from Mega Man 9, and Eternal Engine of Linguistic Massacre from Valkyrie Profile. Some of the time, I thought that the music was a little too happy, but that's probably more personal than is fair. The hack really picks up once you hit the Wily stages. This is an impressive hack from an impressive hacker, who put out the even better Rockman 3 - Claw only about 4 months later. Give them both a try!

One of the best MM hacksTimaeus2015-06-29Version 1.0

The main word that describes this hack is ´´Speed`` , not only because megaman moves fast , is also because it´s speed up the cutscenes and animations after defeating bosses , making the game more directly and less boring .

The hack itself changes everything in the game : enemy and bosses IA , color palettes , level design , weapons , musics and gameplay .

The level design is very polish and relatively easy , giving you lifes , power ups and E-tanks in pretty much all the levels . The bosses have new attack patters , but i could see their IA doesn´t had much changes compared to Rockman 3 Claw , but it´s still pretty nice . The music is Excellent , better than rockman 3 claw in my opinion . They have a good composition and also have musics from final fantasy . The enemies IA is pretty good too . A good part of then are easier and more enjoyable to defeat .The weapons now shot faster and had new colours , making easier to use .
