Hack description

Here is a conversion patch which changes most of the original NES components to make it more like the original arcade version of Gradius. Graphics and sound have been altered as well as the use of having 4 options instead of the default 2. Another addition to this is an option menu at the start screen which allows you to reconfigure controls and also change the roll out of lives at the start of the game.

This new patch also adds the MMC5 Mapper to the ROM as well.

I know it's not a new hack, and I have been playing with this hack for a long time! But I just want to remind people of this! This is the best Gradius you can get in any version! Even compared to Arcade!! Because the balance of the original is already very good! And with the graphics and sound having been upgraded, as well as 4 options instead of the default 2 and the beautiful force field! Make this NES great game become masterpiece version!!

Really cool! I love the fact that you have entered the menu options (I wonder why there is not in the original game) in addition to that the game has the graphics of the arcade version that makes it immensely cooler.

This is a superb update to Gradius and is now the default version of the game I play. I've lost count of how many times I've beaten it already! It's hard to fathom why Konami limited the game to allowing just two options when this patch shows it's perfectly capable of running with four. The enemy placements are now much more faithful to the arcade version as are the graphics. The Vic Viper and end of level boss in particular are huge improvements over the somewhat weird looking originals. I definitely recommend this to any Gradius fans!

This is the pinnacle of what a NES/Famicom ROM hack should be. Fantastic graphical edits; the levels and sprites all look closer to the original arcade version. Even the standard gun blasts from Vic Viper look better. There's no readme file to document what has changed, but here's what I noticed: Arcade font Improved graphics & sprites Force Field acts & looks closer to the arcade version (bigger!) Increases max options from 2 to 4 Option screen added Battery save (saves both high score & option menu) JPN/ENG toggle (changes title from/to "Gradius" or "Nemesis") This is an awesome feat of programming/hacking and really fun on top of that.
