A legendary hack of a legendary game. Final fantasy IV is the game where the series truly became story driven in my mind. This game has stood the test of time as a 16 bit classic and its still experienced for the first time by new players everyday. But,as with all games translated to English at that time the translation was a product of its time, and budget constraints. This hack improves upon an already all time great even further and in my mind is a great place for a first time player of this game to start.. I've only beaten Final Fantasy 4 twice..once with Ultima hack, and once recently with this Project II hack. Excellent work and a big improvement on the vanilla Final Fantasy IV that i never could bring myself to finish. Must play version of Final Fantasy IV. | |||

This hack completely outclasses the original USA version. The script is definitely better than the USA version's one. Not only restores the content, but also adds new things and improves them, like Cid's new commands and the dummied weapons. The appendices are a cool addition, specially for some weapons like the kitchen knife which can be used only once and it's really easy to waste it. | |||

This is one of the best and most satisfying retranslations of our beloved Final Fantasy II(US) I have ever played. I found it so entertaining, and because it's close to the FF2 US original, I had to use this as a base for my FF4 Ultima hack. Of course, there are many other reasons why I chose Project II as a base as well. On top of the great retranslation work, there are a ton of additions, bug fixes and things that were omitted from the US version added back in that make this my favorite vanilla version of FF4. Also, one of the things I love is how they kept the title screen in the style of FF2US, but changing the II to IV to eliminate the series' numbers confusion. If you are looking for a great vanilla FF4 experience that's authentic and feels like the original FF2US for the SNES, look no further than Project II! For an experience closer to the original Japanese FF4 and modern versions of FF games, try Namingway Edition. Thank you vivify93 and everyone that's made this wonderful version! :) | |||

When I read that this version had no memes and then I got to the "You OK?" dialogue I thought to myself "...Wow." It does, actually. This seems like a sloppy effort at translation. Besides the dialogue, there are also quote improvements that rebalance the game, making it different from the original in ways that I don't prefer. | |||

I've seen part of your dialogue for your Project II: Final Fantasy IV hack and it's way better than the American SNES version and the mediocre J2E translation. I've played the Golbez Edition of Final Fantasy IV and the names of everything minus the script are just like your Project II romhack but better. Thank you for letting people use Project II as a base for other Final Fantasy IV romhacks. I've haven't heard much of fedorajoe of his Playable Golbez romhack of Final Fantasy IV. I forgot to mention that Edge is now a supporting character for Final Fantasy IV: Playable Golbez Edition buffing Golbez to playable character status. | |||

I've played nearly every iteration of this game, and all had something that was off-putting. Like the author, I was very disappointed with J2E's translation. I also found the DS version awkward and felt alienated by nearly everything about the graphical interpretation and overly flowery localization. This project is exactly what I've wanted for so long. I've only played to the point where you are at the world map, but already this appears to be the perfect mix of nostalgia and accuracy. It's reminding me of when I first played the game back in the early 90s. It's as if Woolsey had gotten to translate it in the first place. I like the adoption of some of his FF6 vernacular. Thank you so much for doing this. I plan to add more comments once I can play the entire thing.
I've gotten to the underworld and so far the writing has been great. Everything flows well and there has been nothing to make me cringe. There does seem to be an occasional issue where text is cut off early. When talking to townspeople, you could simply talk to them again to get all the text, but it was annoying during plot scenes. It only seemed to happen in one play session, and the next time I booted it up on my SD2SNES, there were no problems. | |||

This is most refreshing. Let's get the technical details out of the way first. The naming conventions stick to the domestic SNES release for the most part, and the item names seem to borrow heavily from FF3 (SNES), which is fairly compelling, imho. Some NPC names have been added for characters relevant to the story, and they are well-chosen. I like the flavor of this script. It's natural and clips along at a decent pace, without sounding too "King's English" where it's meaning to suggest old-fashioned speech. The commands being added back in (DarkWave and whatnot) give it the flavor of FF4J, but the difficulty is obviously that of FF2US, which, btw, is fine with me, since I'm getting old and decrepit, and can't handle challenging games anymore (life is getting challenging enough ^_^). Certainly, it doesn't fire on all four cylinders for me at every single word choice, and it'd be unreasonable to expect it to. You may find this or that word choice clunky, and perhaps you should, but this is a lovely tribute to one of the most inspired games of the SNES generation, and apparently Vivi isn't done with it, so I'll look forward to its completion, and trust that it's in a practiced hand.
