Hack description

This patch changes the font used in the game, and expands the story dialog.

Make sure the ROM has a header present or patch will not work.

Apparently the patch does not work with all copiers. Your best bet is to try and see for yourself if you plan to play this on real hardware.

Don't buy the remake on SteamParkerMcFly2018-07-25Version 1.0

For those SoM fans out there, this is the only way to go. Don't give Steam your money for a crappy re-release of this game... Download this hack!

Pros:

  • Text doesn't hurt your eyes as much
  • The story makes more sense

Cons:

  • None that I've found

Notes:

  • This Hack Steam Edition

TL;DR: Highly recommended. 10/10!

I played through this before and the expanded text is excellent. I remember one spot in the original game the canon travel guy simply said 1. 2. 3. and you were supposed to select one to get launched somewhere. This hack actually lists where you go. A HUGE improvement.

A wonderful refresh!lexluthermiester2016-04-10Version 1.0

The effort put into this hack is easy to see and the results are great! The dialog has been expanded to a level which makes the story line more informative and enjoyable without being so long that it gets boring. Just the right balance. A lot of care and effort went into the retelling of the story without removing any of the nuance of the original translator[Ted Woolsey].

The font change is also very well done and fits right into the game as though it was originally designed in such a manner. In fact I had to run the original to remind myself of the difference.

When combined with the "9 Item" mod, it makes for some grand gaming! And this mod seems to be completely compatible with every other mod on RHDN as well, such as the Hard Mode, Proper Case and SD2 Improvement mods.

This will be a welcome and wonderful experience for any fan of Secret of Mana or indeed anyone who may be playing for the first time. Highly recommended!

Only Way to Ever Play Manamagictrufflez2015-05-01Version 1.0

Great changes-enough to clarify the spotty portions of the original script, but not too much to change the originals feel.

If you play SoM on an emulator, you should always use this patch!

A lovingly crafted take on ManaSpooniest2012-05-28-

Cleanly coded and written with the tone of the original in mind, this resonating take on Mana doesn't disappoint. FuSoYa and Relm are credited in-game, and the two of them have shown their work, for sure. The improvements are extremely subtle and enhance the experience to the point where Woolsey's forced "excuse plot" comes together as something more in line with the game's contemporaries on the SNES, such as Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger. I really can't recommend it enough. Don't miss it!
