Hack description

Here is a spoof hack for Silk Worm which changes the graphics in the game and gives it a war against Iraq theme. Also instead of a helicopter and a jeep, now you control a fighter jet and a tank.

I would describe this hack as a representation of the American perception of Iraq before March of 2003. Nowadays, a lot of people like to act like they never supported the war in Iraq, but back then it wasn't a very popular opinion to be so vehemently against the war.

This hack was developed by a Chinese game developer, which means that the dialogue is in Engrish. You're gonna get choice lines of dialogue such as, "The Iraq support terrorist, activities for long. For world peace, we will stop it." It's like it could've been written by George Bush himself.

An interesting aspect of the game is that your main enemies are helicopters and jet planes. It especially hilarious when you consider that Iraq didn't have a functional air force in 2003, let alone a functional military. Another charming aspect of this hack is that the level bosses are Iraq's purported WMD which essentially look like "Saddam-ified" renditions of the original Silkworm boss sprites.

Overall, it's kind of a depressingly hilarious hack. A good amount of people genuinely thought the Iraq War was going to be a major conflict as depicted here. It's sad to think about what happened in Iraq, but this hack gave me a good laugh.
