Hack description

This hack of Pokemon Emerald is intended for playing the game on an emulator or nuzlocke purposes. All it pertains to is getting the entire Hoenn Dex (not the National Dex, the same roster is available in that case) without trading and a couple slight modifications to make life easier.

Evolution changes (you cannot get all of these in-game, but they're all changed for various purposes):
-Machoke, Graveler, and Kadabra evolve by happiness.
-Scyther evolves at level 26.
-Haunter evolves by happiness in the nighttime.
-Feebas evolves by happiness in the daytime.
-Onix evolves at level 45.
-Poliwhirl evolves to Politoed at level 35.
-Porygon evolves at level 24.
-Slowpoke (to Slowking) and Seadra evolve with Water Stone.
-Clamperl evolves via Happiness; Huntail at night and Gorebyss at day.

Also included:
-Running indoors is possible as long as you have the Running Shoes, just like in later games.
-Hackmew's RNG fix and Pomeg Berry fix.
-Pokemon originally in Ruby and Sapphire but not in Emerald (Lunatone, Zangoose, Meditite, Surskit, and Roselia) are restored but in a limited fashion: all of them are in the first area they appear in those games.
-Treecko is found in Petalburg Woods, Mudkip when surfing on Petalburg City's water, and Torchic in Granite Cave where you give Steven the letter.
-Feebas can be fished out of Route 114 with a Good Rod. This was introduced for pure convenience.
-The trade in Battle Frontier was altered to give you Jirachi. Meowth has been moved to the Safari Zone.
-The Battle Frontier's PokeMart has been altered: the actual clerk now sells every TM in the game, and the girl beside him sells Evolutionary Stones and every Berry in the game.
-Every instance of ALL CAPITAL LETTERS has been removed except for a few scant exceptions.
-Ferry Events work now, tickets can be found around Hoenn in normal item pickups. I'm not saying where, but they're pretty easy to find!
-The last Rival battle uses the fully evolved Starter, because you never got to even see it otherwise.
-Some things in Pokemon Emerald that were changed to green for no reason have been converted to their original colors.
-Improved Pokemon sprites, animations and all.
-A few optional patches: actually notice when it's day and night, Uncensor trainer sprites, input a few newer game mechanics, or make Emerald a tiny bit more like Ruby and Sapphire! More information in the included FAQ.

For a version of this hack with all 386 Pokemon obtainable, please see Complete National Dex Edition. If you'd rather the edited evolutions be done by new evolution stones, check out Stone Clones.

Definitive Hoenn gameClaudeDixon2022-04-12Version Complete

Unlike certain hacks of this kind for FireRed (like Ultra Violet and Throwback) there's not one flaw I can think of with the changes here. Not only that, but the amount of optional features like the new (and better) Team Magma/Aqua Pokémon teams provide a welcome level of customizability.

There's a few things holding this game back imo that remain from vanilla Emerald: 1) The Match Call feature. Seriously, I HATE having trainers call me and say the most random, useless stuff about how their irrelevant day is going. Why GameFreak didn't make adding phone numbers optional like in Crystal, I've no clue. I really wish a future update of this hack could include the option to disable all trainer phone calls, unless it's something useful like them giving you items or something (if that's a thing in Emerald)

2) The ability to catch Rayquaza at Lv70 before Elite 4. I'd personally find it better if Rayquaza was either nerfed to Lv47 (like Groudon/Kyogre in R/S), or made unavailable until the post game, because letting you catch a Lv70 legendary during the main game is almost like offering you a guaranteed win imo. Sure you can ignore the offer, but the fact the option's there at all just doesn't sit well with me lol.

3) An optional patch that makes Steven the Champion like in R/S would be great as well. You'd have to change the Meteor Falls fight to something else that makes sense (a final rival battle maybe?) but I'm sure something could be done.

The best way to experience the Gen 3, in my opinionLostSoulSilver2021-08-19Version Complete

Basically, this romhack is to Pokémon Emerald, what Pokémon Emerald is to Ruby and Sapphire

It takes almost every holdback that the original had and replaces it with joy and coolness. Now there's legendaries that were previously locked behind macrotransactions or events that happened years before you learned how to read. And you can actually catch 'em all, like a real loser without friends that trade Pokémon with you. And everything is not green anymore!

And so much more has been fixed, polished, and or improved. The extra Pokémon availability would have been enough to warrant this a good rating, but this one truly goes one step further in almost every way except maybe music.

9.8/10 A massive improvement, with still a tiny bit of room left for more improvement

Huge QOL improvements, fantastic additionsAngelTheMute2020-05-09Version Complete

Really great stuff here, this hack is incredibly well done. I did encounter a bug though; when using this hack on an old save, my Machamp's Guts ability was gone. Very odd, note sure if it had to do with my already modified file. All my other modified trade evolution Pokemon retained their abilities though.

Nevertheless, really great hack. Was skeptical of the art modifications at first, but they were wonderfully implemented, great job!

A solid and expansive improvementThirteen 13552018-08-11Version Complete

I remember picking up this hack years ago, and playing throughout it. Back then the hack accomplished what it sets out to do: make every Pokémon in the Hoenn Dex available. It was not without its bugs however, and I'm glad to see that these have been all but fixed.

However, there is one bug I discovered. I'm not sure if it was in the 2014 release, or if it only recently popped up. Deoxys' Speed Forme back sprite is coordinated a few pixels higher than it should be, resulting in the sprite hovering above the menu screen, making visible the part where the sprite is supposed to be cut off (because the menu screen starts there normally).

Besides this bug, I can wholeheartedly recommend this hack. It isn't as advanced as Fire Red's Throwback hack (Starters are simply located in the wild rather than being obtained through newly scripted events), but at least this one actually does what it intends to do. Every single Pokémon included in the Hoenn Pokédex is available in this hack.

The optional patches are great additions as well, providing some great changes like adding a day/night cycle or giving the villainous teams more specific Pokémon based on typing.

Certainly worth playing.

This is a dream come to life, in all manners.xGMVx2017-11-04Version Complete

This was the best hack I could ever ask for. It is vanilla, yet feels like a totally refreshing experience to level up your Pokémon by happiness or with evolutionary stones unlike before when trade was needed. Having Gen 6 features is again another excellent add. Speaking of which, it would be nice if the physical/special split was implemented on this, as apparently applying a patch to that, or hex editing myself made the Battle Frontier Pokémart glitch, where I couldn't leave and no NPCs were inside (glad I had a quick save just before going in). Overall, amazing, impressive work. Thank you for sharing this with the community!

This is probably the best version of emerald you could play. Highly recommended. I do wish I could make the game somewhat more vanilla with the original pokemon sprites and such.

Much better than vanilla emeraldShadowfury2014-03-27-

Despite a few caps-lock related typos still present in version 1C, this hackrom is pretty good. So far I haven't encountered any other bug.

Potentially Great Mod For EmeraldLegions2014-03-26-

There aren't enough hacks for Emerald out there and the ones that are screw with moveset/difficulty that it diminishes the original game. This hack does a great job of combining Gen III into the complete package. I'm looking forward to the 386 edition.
