Really fun and neat hack with amazing fortress stagesTimaeus2020-03-03Version 1.0

After a long time, I got better at constructive criticism and I felt like reviewing this again.

The hack is so much fun to play. All palettes(including weapons) are changed. While the stage palettes were not as good as The Revenge of the 8 robot masters or The Adventures of Bass, they are still fresh. I love when level hacks changes the weapon palettes, so big props for that.

The level design is fun and creative, with no force beams or frustration until the last stage. Wily 4 uses vertical and horizontal glowing bars that does damage to you, and you have to use the utilities in a creative way to pass them. Very nice gimmicks there, sad it only lasted for one stage. The fortress stages does not requires constant weapon switching with the utilities, which is really great!

The weapons now does different amount of damage per enemy, making Metal Blade not killing enemies in few hits, and buffing Air Shooter, Crash Bomb and Bubble Lead with higher damage. Some enemies still do not get hit with certain weapons like in the original though, which is really dumb for me, but it feels that it does not happen as often as in the original. The complain here is the Hot Heads at Wily 6 and Boobeam Trap, which requires too much hits to kill.

The weakness are changed as well, and some bosses have different arenas and all of them take a different damage with the buster.

My problem with the hack is the fact that the fortress bosses requires special weapons to defeat. This made me lose all my 8 lives at Wily 6 since I did not knew that Air Shooter was the only weapon that worked on the Alien, and since the game made it better, I used it a lot through the game. This is a problem for people that like to use weapons to beat the stages, since the amount of weapon capsules is just not enough to balance the issue. It only happened at Wily 6 but that is because I kept recharging Air Shooter a lot (it is the weakne....I mean, the weapon required to defeat other two bosses as well). Also, Wily 6 REALLY needed an Energy Tank in it, since you will get to the alien with not much health left since you will get damaged by the Hot Heads (again, waaay too much health there).

Outside this issue, this hack is just super fun and neat as it is. Its fair, fun and I prefer it instead of the poorly designed levels of other hacks like ONN or Yendor Code.

I recommend it!

Rockman 2 EX - GOODDobu_GM2019-04-25Version 1.0

Rockman EX

Levels: Excellent

Graphics: Good (Different Palette)

Music: No Change

Enemies: No Change

Bosses: Okay (Different Rooms)

Weapons: Okay (Rebalanced Damage)

Castle: Good

Difficulty: EASY-MEDIUM

Comments: A simple, decent hack. The rebalanced effectiveness of the robot master weapons against the rest of the enemy line-up makes this game a bit more interesting than your typical vanilla stage redesign hack. Levels are well designed and challenge the player without going overboard. There are also a couple of neat visual effects and palette combinations, despite all the art being vanilla as well. A nifty hack.

Challenging, but fairEmployee2014-11-02-

Just sat down with Rockman 2 EX, and so far it presents more of a challenge than the Normal mode from MegaMan 2. Seems more on par with the standard Rockman 2 difficulty.

Level design so far is really solid. Some interesting placement of enemies not found in their usual places. I'm looking forward to playing all the way through this one since I loved the original game so much.
