Hack description

This hack improves all of the graphics in the entire game and also adds some asm work to this great original title. This hack utilizes not only some of the sprites from Infidelity's "Zelda - Legend of Link" hack but also Snarfblam's Automap Plus. This adds a map to the overworld that is revealed as the player explores. Also the heart meter is drawn in 1/8 heart increments, and potions and fairies refill life faster.

Has much potential, but needs some adjustmentsM00nMayn2022-04-21Version 1.0

Unlike a lot of other graphical hacks, this one is fairly consistant and pleasing to the eye. A few things stick out though, one being Link's sprite, which looks a bit weird, particularily the ears. I think it would be benificial to use a model that more closely resembles what he looks like in Link's Awakening, like some of the enemy models used in this hack by the looks of it.

And the grassy overworld tile is repetitive to look at. Of course, Link's Awakening used this tile a lot, but it also had a variation of other ground tiles to go along with it and add variety.

Also, Link's sword blends in with the ground in the overworld; not only does it not look good, but it makes it hard to visually judge the sword's reaching distance in battle.

With these things fixed, this could easily be a top tier Zelda 1 graphics hack.

Close to goodpocket2018-01-09Version 1.0

This is a very good looking hack, out of all the "graphical improvement hacks" I've seen for Zelda 1, this is probably the only one that I think is worth anything.

However, there is one major problem that bugs me about it, and that would be the grass pattern that just checkerboards the entire overworld... it doesn't look good imo. I know it was done to give the game a more Link's Awakening aesthetic, but it doesn't work here. If it was spread around in patches, like in LA, I think it would work, but not the way it's done in this game.

Also, I don't care for the minotaur type enemies replacing Moblins.

But if you are looking for a Zelda 1 graphical enhancement, you could do worse than this one, but until someone else gives it a shot, you can't do better.

SO Much Better!Animation Guru2016-04-14Version 1.0

Overall, graphically superior to the original game. This is the version of the game to play. Period.

One caveat, however, is that the game is made for the original derped 1986 localization. It would be nice if I could either apply this to the 2003 Gamecube version or KillerBob's Relocalization patch.

Fun graphic upgrade!lexluthermiester2015-12-05Version 1.0

The mod is very well done! The graphics are indeed very similar to Legend Of Link and the automap works like it should. My only complaint, and it's minor one, is the color palette used which is no different than Legend Of Link. But that's just personal taste.

Very much recommended!
