| Megaman (5) Install Metal - EXCELLENT Work! | diablo666 | 2021-11-28 | Version 1.1 |
Honestly, I didn't think that this hack would be so good. I asked at Roevsky : "What good hacks do you recommend?" And among the list - this hack was among them. The music, the graphic part, the levels are at a high level. I enjoyed this hack. It is in some way - it has the complexity of the "Original games about Megaman". Sometimes, when it's not difficult, it's not interesting. This is not about this hack. Look for "beautiful graphics", "perfect levels", "beautifully written music (remixes)", "does not anger and even gives relaxation in some way" - THIS IS FOR YOU. I definitely recommend it to everyone, because really there are no disadvantages here P.S: From this hack - you can take an example
| Mixes things up in a good way! | Sosuko | 2021-09-12 | Version 1.1 |
Note: This playthrough was on the "hard" version of the hack. As far as I could tell, the only difference was that you have far less invincibility on taking damage. This hack is definitely a good one for Rockman 5. The level design is pretty strong throughout (though some sections are so easy that they basically serve no purpose), and the mechanics of the levels are used in creative ways. It also subverts expectations a bit by having the gimmicks of some levels put into different ones. For example, you'll be underwater for a large part of Charge Man's stage, and fighting Star Man takes place in an inverted gravity room. The adjustments to enemies and weapons are also welcome changes, and there are good quality of life adjustments like fast ladder climbing. One thing that was a little lacking in terms of level design was the use of the utility items like Rush Jet and Super Arrow. Both were used very rarely for bonus items or progression in Wily Stages, with one Rush Jet section literally being as simple as "fly over a small pit with no obstacles in your way". Still, the new boss AI is particularly enjoyable and adds some spice to the playthrough which I thoroughly enjoyed on the hard difficulty. The only gripe I have in that department was the final boss's 1st form, which basically requires good RNG to beat since it gives you very little room and time to react to the 3-4 different attacks. Overall, I had a lot of fun with the hack and would definitely recommend it, just don't expect it to be something entirely different
| An Unbelievable Experience | Mother Kojiro | 2016-05-05 | Version 1.1 |
Mega Man 5 hacks aren't that common, and this one stands strongly among them. The visuals were fantastic, sticking mostly to dark, mysterious atmospheres. As for the music, you know you have a great soundtrack when the Doom Castle music from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest starts playing on the title screen, and it only gets better from there. You'll hear music from Live-A-Live, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Harmony of Dissonance, Little Nemo, Mega Man X, Battletoads, Blaster Master, and many more that sounded familiar, but I couldn't quite place. Little Nemo in particular sounds marvelous; it's mostly intact, because it's a Capcom tune, but with Mega Man 5's sound mapper, it sounds even better! The hacker even did something really clever and subtle with the Proto Man whistle. The weapons were tweaked, and many of them are much better, though Power Stone somehow manages to be even worse than before. The level design is pretty solid, too; it's challenging, but rarely frustrating. Definitely check this one out!
| Great Hack | WilloftheNinja | 2015-07-26 | Version 1.1 |
Install Metal is an amazing hack. The music and graphics have been redone, and looks/sounds fantastic. The enemy AI has been changed, adding some fresh challenges. One of the most fantastic things about this hack is it's difficulty. While many Mega Man hacks offer a gritty amount of difficulty that no mere human can endure, Install Metal has a perfect difficulty level, not way too hard, but not incredibly easy either. The new level design has been done creatively and is challenging but enjoyable. I would recommend this hack to any fan of the series.
| Probably the best MM5 hack | BaronHaynes | 2015-03-03 | Version 1.1 |
I was really impressed with Install Metal. It makes major improvements to the MM5 engine, removing the enemy i-frames, charging while sliding and retaining charge when hit, increasing Rush Coil's hitbox, and virtually eliminating game lag. Tilesets, boss AI, and weapon functionality are all new. Almost everything in the game has been tweaked to give it a unique feel. It's a rare romhack with the robustness of a fangame. Quick weapon switching and faster cutscenes make it well-suited for speedrunning as well. Very highly recommended.
| Good hack | HatZen08 | 2015-01-22 | Version 1.1 |
The levels were redesigned. They are creative with good design. The difficulty is balanced. In the final levels, the difficulty raises considerably. However, it is balanced because the player has all the weapons available in the final levels. The enemy sprites weren't changed. However, their artificial intelligence and actions were updated or altered. The bosses pattern were changed as well. It is a balanced hack with creative design. I have fun. The review only applies to the normal version of the hack.
