Hack sets high standards for itself. To turn a well-known game into a finely tuned machine. As I never played it before without this patch, this one made it a good experience. Everything looked clean and ran well. Didn't see anything that bothered me. After the ending, read the regional comparisons and changelog fully. Checked out changes myself. Everything in the game was carefully combed over. This finished product: nothing distracting was left in there. Finely polished and sculpted muscle of romhacking. Nice.

Uncensored hacks of Earthbound have been quite the popular subject in it's hacking scene. Many didn't get quite so far, and others had their own problems (like the title screen bug that MaternalBound only recently fixed). This one, as opposed to a full retooling to the original lines (because EB's localization initially was great among SNES games) aims to do a compromise at times with vanilla Earthbound while providing us with the most complete restoration of what as intended all those years ago. There are also grammar fixes, a couple of bugfixes like restoration of NPCs that should've been there, and an optional run button. So those on the fence should still take a look as this hack isn't a text-only affair. And above all, oh my goodness does that animated title screen look amazing. I feel safe in calling this the definitive version of Earthbound/Mother 2. Definitely playable by those for their first time and those who want to give it another spin. Another note: for those who feel this effort is a little kid-friendly or tampers with original intent too much, the link in the description goes to a "rated M for Mother" version and 1:1 translation of Mother 2. Everyone wins!
