CV2: Hard Modetimeisup2020-05-11Version 1.1

If Redaction is Easy Mode and Re-translation + Map is Normal, this is Hard. The extra whipping will cause you to get your butt handed to you easily so you will have to save up and buy the whips. That's where the problems start. The thorn whip, was thankfully easy to find, making the first part of the game bearable, but the others were missing in action.

That brings us to another problem, while it's nice some items are in new spots and I found most, the underwater mansions also need to be accessed differently. I found myself on top of the mountain at the second to last mansion. Never found the morning star whip and cannot go left under the water like the original game. That's right, the ducking with the crystal trick doesn't work. Can't go back down the mountain either. So, I'm stuck missing the cross, ring and morning star (meaning I can't get the flame whip.) I tried approaching the last mansion from the opposite direction in the graveyard by letting a blob hit me in air to make me jump higher. Unfortunately, you can only carry one laurel at a time in this hack and it is impossible to cross the marsh with just one.

I might restart one day, but the extra HP of the enemies is more annoying than challenging and while it's cool to have the items rearranged the layout has that rough unpolished ROM hack look a lot of games have that doesn't look authentic structurally. Example, you'll find water deaths where there is no water. I don't know if that's a glitch, or because there used to be water there (the lakes where you can't go underneath with the crystal anymore, but you can break the bricks that are there with holy water. You might think you can descend but you are greeted with a water death, but there is no water visible.)

You'll notice the increased difficulty right away. I implore you, if you play this game, have a turbo pad or your thumb will fall off. The enemies added HP will cause some stress when others spawn and you're still killing the first guy. Although not needed to beat the game, I used emulator features like save states and framerate increase for several reasons: saved time on grinding hearts to buy weapons; some destroyed blocks lead to (water) death; reduce frustration on certain segments where slimes absolutely kick your ass; to not have to use the password feature (laziness); and wait out the night curse. New castle layouts were cool and added difficulty gave it a fresh experience. The clues were helpful and had some creativity in their writings. I recommend to advanced players who want a challenge and a new experience on a classic game.
