Hack description

This hack gives Link's Awakening the love it deserves by introducing a beautiful VWF that makes the text much more readable. All the text is adapted to fit the space freed by the new font.

It also removes the spaces at the end of the player's name (if any) and fixes a couple of typos.

A much better and easier to read fontShade Aurion2019-03-11Version 1.0

I actually just finished a full Let's Play using this mod in conjunction with the_icepenguin's quality of life hack and Artemis251's Restoration patch and for the most part they wer totally compatible. This made the game feel a lot better to play and read withouttext taking up half the screen. Well done! 10/10

Much better font for an already great game!phantom_with_a_rose2019-02-23Version 1.0

While 'Link's Awakening' is still a great game, overall, I've never cared for the Italics font the game developers used for it. Compared to the font used in the Oracle games, it just seemed to stick out like a sore thumb and just felt unfitting, especially for a Zelda title. This Variable Width Font patch makes the text more appealing on the eyes and feels natural than the ugly Italics font used in the original. The only part that still remains in Italics is the file select screen, but this is very minor since the rest of the text is in VWF. I replayed through LA with this patch from beginning to end and found no errors in the script whatsoever (and yes, I also used the 1.2 version of the rom). Many thanks to toruzz for making this!

Based on 1.0 ROMRoyerson2019-02-20Version 1.0

Based on the fact that it reintroduces all the bugs from DX 1.0 (TCRF), it seems like this patch actually used the 1.0 ROM as a base for some reason, even though the patch is for 1.2.

None of the bugs are really that huge, but combined with it not being compatible with the text changes from the Photo Album Translation and Restoration patches, this one just doesn't seem worth it to me, even though it is very nice and I would love to use it if it weren't for these issues.

Text looks nice and naturalPrince Valmont2019-02-15Version 1.0

Replaying the game with this new font is refreshing. I highly recommend it. I would also like to see if this is compatible with Artemis251's "Link's Awakening Restoration" hack where they restore the cut content into the game (with dialogue). Compatibility with that should also ensure compatibility with the "Quality of Life Improvements" hack by the_icepenguin.

I can't wait for this new Switch Remaster to hit this year so I can re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-replay the game.

Looks great, no glitcheslastdual2017-07-30Version 1.0

A nice choice of font that makes the text much more readable. Another reviewer noted garbled text in certain areas, but I cannot seem to reproduce the effect (made sure I was patching v1.2 of the rom). Everything looks great and glitch-free for me!

Nice text with a few hitchespocket2017-06-06Version 1.0

I really think this is a vast improvement over the original game's italicized text which took up far too much of the text box. It looked great.

However there were a few problems when playing, notably a cut scene near the beginning of the game, any time you talk to crazy tracy, and the very end scene, they all have a few lines of garbled text where your name should be.

I know what the glitched words were supposed to say, so it doesn't bother me any, but it should probably be fixed sometime.
