| So good so far, just one bug as the original | nad84 | 2021-08-20 | Version 1.0 |
I haven't found out new bugs aside from what I remember from the base Battletoads NES version, but I managed to do the same jumping bug you can execute anytime you get the byke in level 3 and the surf table in level 5. Not sure if many people may know this bug since the original but, if you come running to either the byke or surf table and then perform a jump RIGHT BEFORE getting the byke or surf table, you will get a massive jump into the air (as long as you keep held the jump button, this lasts for like 5-7 seconds). This is not something that may crash the game but still, it's a bit off this could ever be performed since the original version and I just discovered it many years ago just by fun and is not likely a super hard bug to perform. Either way, great to see the game may keep being updated and improved thanks to your effort into it ! Congratulations! Edit August 20th: Just some note and suggestions if possible to fix some issues: 1) Some guy suggested to use an unused theme from this game. I'd suggest that for Level 5 Surf City, since surf city & level 9 (terra tubes) share the same background music. 2) Disable the jump action right on the same section prior to get into the level 3 byke or level 5 surf tables, so then you can safely pick up the vehicles without getting the massive jump bug that I mentioned above. 3) Once you reach 999,999 points I'd suggest getting back to 000,000 since this would help to allow points being useful once again the moment you reach the maximum points allowed. If think you this may make the game easier, I don't think so because then you may not reach out that many points since level 7 or 8 because the big amount of points comes mostly from levels 2-4. I hope you can read up those suggestions, thanks again for the work into this !
| Introduces more problems than it solves. | Mr. Pennington | 2020-02-01 | Version 1.0 |
This hack's heart is in the right place. It's nice knowing for sure that the game isn't going to crash or soft lock, it's cool that it's now at least BEATABLE in multiplayer, and the graphics are a bit prettier in spots. However, if you're familiar with how to beat this game, you're better off sticking with the buggy original. Most of the problems this hack addresses relate to multiplayer. I've never met ANYONE who primarily plays Battletoads multiplayer. It's such an inherently unpleasant 2-player experience that any bugs present in that mode are almost irrelevant. As for single-player, while there are, indeed, many bugs that you can CAUSE in the original, the ones beyond your control are infrequent enough as to not warrant this hack's biggest misstep: making the toads come to a full stop when ducking in 2-D stages. There is a good reason you're supposed to coast when you duck in the 2-D stages: because you have to simultaneously duck attacks and move toward enemies. This introduces a great, big problem in Intruder Excluder (especially at the boss, who you also, weirdly now have to perform an additional jump to trigger, thus INTRODUCING a bug), Terra Tubes, and Rat Raceāand the latter two are the LAST stages that need more problems. Also, some of the enemies seem to behave a bit differently in Terra Tubes. You DO NOT want the enemies to behave unpredictably in this level. It's a real shame, because the most frequent game-breaker by far is the Rat Race bug, and knowing that won't happen is an enormous plus. What I most wish this hack would've done is somehow compensate for the screen lag in Rat Race and Clinger Winger, which makes those levels significantly more difficult when played on anything except a CRT. Still, I admire the effort here and would love to recommend it, but the 'no coasting' change is a deal-breaker.
| This patch is simply perfect | madness flame | 2016-07-05 | Version 1.0 |
This patch is exactly the kind of patch that I love. It doesn't change the game itself. The game remain the same. The only differences, is that it fix bugs, especially this famous bug from Clinger Winger level on 2 player mode. Once this patch is applied to the original game, I consider the patched game to be the original. But it's better than the real original full of bugs. I didn't even knew there were so many bugs in the game. For instance, the color of the obstacles in Turbo Tunnel level, how was I suppose to know these should have been yellow instead of pink? I guess it was found somewhere in the coding of the game itself that something was not working as it should be and that's why you fix it. So it's nice that this patch also fix this bug. Other details I wouldn't have think of, the music while fighting the boss Big Blag, because I would have noticed only if it was a bigger bug such as having no music at all. But once it's patched, you realise it's just better like this. Even the tiny pink spot on the title screen was fixed. And so on, there's many other bugs fixed (look at the ReadMe file, and see how good this patch is). It's a patch that fix so many bugs at the same time, it's simply making the game better, and I don't see any reason of not wanting to patch your game with this patch. I do recommend this patch for sure. I don't know if there's any other bugs remaining, but I'll try to keep up to date by going to see if there's new versions. Respect to the author of this patch, you've done a very nice job here, and I really appreciate this patch. Seriously, everyone playing this game should try this patch. | This is Great ! | DeadMark | 2016-01-17 | Version 1.0 |
Awesome, I always like battletoads, but some bugs in it just pisses me off. And now, after 24 years from the game release, we finally have the best and almost perfect (some bugs are still need to be fixed) version of battletoads. Now second player don't need to die on the clinger-winger level, and also 32 other bugs was fixed! Awesome Work, Ti, Awesome work! But I still suggest to fix some bugs, that I was writing about on the forum, and maybe put that unused song on Surf City level, that would be really great.
| Battletoads (U) - Now it's correct (24 years after)! | Goros Lair | 2015-08-30 | Version 1.0 |
Well, Battletoads is my favorite game and, when it was originally released (the U version), I've become very glad but... when I've tried to beat the Level 11 in 2 players mode the nightmare: there was a bug/ a nasty glitch. What do I have to say? 24 years later I finally have the opportunity to beat the original game and, without the bug, that's wonderful, a dream coming true! But, not only this bug, but 32 other ones were fixed too: Background Music for Big Blag in Surf City was added, The rockets/Missiles in Volkmire's Inferno were fixed too, the toads' sprites for the Jet Turbo in the same level, the Pink Chests/Vocal Sacs (in Turbo Tunnel) were fixed to yellow... and many, many other things. In my opinion, this was the exact rom to be released in 1991 and, to be honest, this should be the original and official game. If I recommend it, obviously that is YES and, replace the original bad one, to the right one that is this (24 years later, fortunately, now we have it).
