I did try the original Dragoon Omega X 2 and just found it too much on grinding as this author even pointed out. Still wanted to try this easy version. Grinding is just tedious. Well, there is this. And comes with a second patch, a boss buffed patch, more on that in a moment. This patch does its job to reduce grinding making enemies too easy one hit kills and lots of experience. So what's the problem? That boss buff patch. The first boss was ridiculous. The enemies in the first area were simple, so why was the boss unbeatable? I fought with save states for about a 30 minutes and it was still alive. Mind you that the boss hits hard and you will die quickly. Healing PSI and items gave me less than the damage I took with the best at the time equipment. I'm sure the regular easy mode will be just that, but stay away from the boss buff patch making them ridiculously over powered.
| The best version of an excellent Total Conversion! | Naniyue | 2018-02-27 | Version v1.0 |
Dragoon X Omega is a wonderfully dark total conversion of Final Fantasy, with a welcome change from humdrum swords and sorcery to a gritty science fiction setting. Except for the super deformed/chibi character sprites, the graphics both inside and outside of battle are superb, with music that perfectly fits the tone of the scenario. Now, about Easy Mode . . . It's not easy. It's perfect! The original game required way too much grinding. While I'm sure this was meant to emulate how old style RPGs were, it's ultimately just a waste of time. I'm a longtime veteran of computer RPGs, usually playing hardcore style, so I know what grinding is all about. This patch really doesn't make the game easier, but rather better streamlined. Highly recommended!
