Hack description

Here is a graphics conversion for Ghosts 'n Goblins which changes the graphics to look more like its arcade counterpart.

Use this on a Japanese version of the ROM for it to work correctly.

Excellent graphic enhancement?flanger2023-06-19Version 1.0

The screen jitter is gone and the graphics look great. Don't forget, as I did, that the Japanese version of Ghosts n' Goblins does not have a Continue feature readily available. You need to hold Right, press B or A three times, then press Start to continue. Makaimura is also harder than the US release of Ghosts n' Goblins. Still, the look and feel of this hack is excellent

The best versionDanielJetman2022-09-01Version 1.0

This is exactly the version I ever wanted to play on the NES. The scrolling was finally fixed to "normal", some graphics were improved and some backgrounds (like the houses in level 2) were added. Thank you.

Would love to have a translation patch!Timstuff2018-09-26Version 1.0

This, combined with the "fair play" patch, is hands down the best way to experience Ghosts 'N Goblins on the NES / Famicom. The only downside is having to sacrifice the English localization. Hopefully someone out there is working on an English language patch and title screen replacement, because having the Arcade Conversion in English, for me would be the definitive way to play it on the console.

I 2nd What the First Reviewer SaysFreightMan712018-01-29Version 1.0

What the first reviewer said was pretty much spot on.

I always liked this NES version, but as a kid, never realized how choppy the gameplay really was, but as already stated, this patch fixes both graphics to make the game look grittier and more arcade-like, and smooths out the scrolling.

I went back n forth played this patch, then the original US and European versions a few times and Makai Mura with this patch beats them both hands down.

Very much recommend this very professional looking fix.

THIS is how the NES port should have beenSynnae2015-12-01Version 1.0

I'm a huge fan of the Makai-Mura series. Even though the first game is my least favorite, the original Arcade version is still enjoyable. The NES version on other hand, while it plays more or less like the Arcade original, still took a huge hit on the graphics (which is understandable and not really an issue). But the main problem is the scrolling of the game which is extremely choppy and rough. The game probably runs at 30fps, but I'm not exactly sure.

This hack, however, fixes both the graphics and the scrolling problems. The game now looks MUCH prettier and closer to the Arcade version. Every graphical bit of the game got remade (from sprites, to background, to foreground). In addition, the scrolling is now 100% fluid and smooth. It seems like the game runs at proper 60fps now, so the gameplay experience feels much more pleasant and enjoyable.

If you're a Makai-Mura fan, make sure to give this hack a try. You won't even want to look back at the vanilla NES version again!
