Hack description

7th Saga is a SNES jRPG notorious for its unforgiving difficulty in that monsters are brutally difficult and the heroes' stats don't rise particularly generously with their levels. It is not widely known, however, that 7th Saga is the localized version of Elnard, the Japanese incarnation of this game which is much, much easier by comparison. This IPS patch restores the monster stats of Elnard to the US 7th Saga and also modifies the mechanics of player leveling such that the player will now gain stats as he or she would in Elnard, making the game's difficulty level much more reasonable. Additionally, confrontations with the rival apprentices in this game are now properly balanced, an oversight in the localized version.

Note: This patch requires a ROM that has no header.

Update (10/16/07):

Thanks to the keen eye of gamefaqs poster "usernamehere", it was noted that even in the original Elnard, magic users' power did not grow at the proper rate. I have released an alternate patch which, though not exactly true to Elnard, does make playing magic users possible again. Choosing a magic user as a partner should now also be a much more viable option.

Great ...mirikit642021-08-07Version 1.0

Liked the US version but can't give enough time to it. So using this instead and it's great. Would recommend.

A way to test it would be Aron (3rd place, 1st castle boss) should be defeat-able by Lejis at level 5 or 6whereas in the US version it was 8.

I wouldn't say this patch makes the game MUCH easier (as Lux, my strength boosts go from 4-6 each level instead of 3-5, let me know if this seems right) as it's still very easy to die when you walk into a new area unprepared. But I did manage to beat Pison on the first try with some strategy, which I'd never done when I had the actual cartridge back in the day.

Really balances the game!Scottdj232017-07-30Version 1.0

After play testing it, I can definitely say that the stats are more balanced like the Japanese version, Elnard. I also added the magic users patch to it.

I discovered that the magic stat keeps increasing past it's normal maximum of 255. It still displays 255, but it continues to grow. I can't speak for the speed stat, which is suppose to cap at 255, because at that point you are already dodging everything!

I really enjoyed this patch. :)

Definitely worth playing.Recca2016-10-02Version 1.0

7th Saga is one of those games which is widely known for its incredible difficulty and unbalanced gameplay. This patch, though simple, corrects these oversights that were present in the English localized version. The character stat growths and enemy stats have now been probably balanced as they were in the original Elnard (7th Saga). Battles are still tough, but fair. Players will no longer have to worry about getting defeated in one or two hits by nearly impossible to beat enemies and especially bosses.

There's also an alternative magic patch available that also corrects the oversight of the magic users' stats which was also present in both the original Elnard and the 7th Saga localized version. This patch is recommended for those who wish to experience playing 7th Saga with the balanced stats of Elnard and without having to spend a lot of time level grinding or having anything else in the game changed. It makes the game much more enjoyable and worth replaying.
