Hack description

This small patch will switch around the colour scheme of Mario and Luigi's outfits in SMB1 and Lost Levels in order to match their appearance in every other game in this collection (and to match the standard series colour scheme established since SMB2)

Mario now wears a red shirt with blue overalls, while Luigi wears a green shirt with blue/light purple overalls. As a result of this, Fire Mario and Luigi's colour schemes have also been switched, once again matching the scheme shared by the other games in SMAS and subsequent games in the series.

All relevant sprites have been modified, including those in the ending and game over sequences for both characters.

Apply the patch to an un-headered US Super Mario All-Stars rom in .sfc format. Also appears to work with an un-headered US Super Mario All-Stars + World rom (also .sfc format), but hasn't been extensively tested, so do so at your own risk.

(Updated March 12, 2016 - Missed a handful of sprites/pieces; these have been properly re-coloured as of v1.2)

Takes away the charmTheNintendude642020-10-21Version 1.2

There is one thing I dislike more than anything when it comes to remakes and that's "modernization." I really liked the original sprites for the classic overalls since it made it feel more like SMB1 and help differentiate it from SMB3 (especially since those sprites are almost the exact same.) This patch undoes all that and makes SMB1 feel less like SMB1 and makes it look more like SMB3.

What it says on the tinpocket2017-10-21Version 1.2

If you like the modern color scheme for Mario, this is the patch for you. I recommend it if you are of the school of thought that the blue breaking up the red is the better look for Mario.

Personally, I like the red overalls look. If anything, I wish there was a reverse of this patch for Mario 2 ( considering the box-art has him with red overalls )

Oversight Crisis Averted! Thank You! :)JonXM912017-03-29Version 1.2

I never understood why Mario and Luigi in this game had coloured overalls for their colour schemes instead of blue ones. If it was because of the Super Show Cartoon DiC made around the time, I suppose it makes a slight bit of sense. I know that the manual has the Bros. in their coloured overalls, but it just seems off putting for All-Stars SMB/TLL to be this way in the first place. After I downloaded a ROM and this patch, I was SO happy to replay Super Mario Bros. (and even the Lost Levels!) with the (in my honest opinion) *correct* colour scheme for Mario and Luigi (blue overalls). Thank You so much for posting this here, as I can now enjoy Super Mario Bros. far more than I ever thought possible. Yes, I get that this is such a minor detail for some, but you have no idea how bad I can get with OCD. Speaking as a person with high functioning autism for the record.
