| Great, but has big flaws | Timaeus | 2020-03-07 | Version 1.0 |
Level design : 5/10 The level design here is....50/50. Half is great and amazing, but the other half is terrible! The main problems are the area with prop tops in Heat Man's stage (How do you get through it without taking damage is beyond me), all the yoku block sections (which will fool you at least once, making you die at least once to learn them), the irritating and unfair enemy placement in Wily 3 (not only its impossible to not get hit but some enemies will kill and spawn after you jump, resulting in lots of cheap shots), the false floors at the end of Wily 1 (they really needed to be introduced in a safe place before that. There is no clear indication that the not white blocks are false, resulting in a cheap death) and mainly Wily 2. I got through it with no save states, and it took me more than 30 minutes to do so. The concept is fine on paper, but it REALLY needed more lifes! You can even break the stage if you waste Quickman's weapon entirely, grab one big weapon capsule and shot three times. That will make the ammo pretty much infinite. Also, the final part is much harder and it is....just not good! I loved the music there and the graphics were great, but man.... Weapons: 6.5/10 The weapons are interesting overall, but calling it an useful arsenal is another thing. Half of them are useful somewhere or good in general, and half are useless. Crash Bomb is amazing and fun and its the best one here. It has 28 shots and you explode wherever you want, Atomic Fire is just the buster with a weak charge shot, Metal Blade is a poor version of Punk's weapon since you can only fire one per time, it is super slow to go away, doesn't go too far and it is super weak, Time Stopper lasts one second per use and has 14 uses, Bubble Lead shot fishes that launch themselves forward and fast after touching the ground, Air Shooter now shots only on full vertical directions and with a very small hitbox, Leaf Shield now only shots if you move backwards and lost its hitbox when it is not being launched and Quick Boomerang makes you invincible. Musics: 9/10 The soundtrack is amazing. I found nothing wrong with the melodies or anything. One or two musics at max were abit unfitting, but that is about it. Really good soundtrack overall! Bosses: 3.5/10 The bosses are too hard to buster duel and some of them had great concepts but got messed up with a rather bad execution. None of them seems to be possible to no damage except Bubble Man, Mecha Dragon, The Giant Tank, Wily and the Alien. Also, Quickman stays invincible for waaay too long on the fight, and the Boobeam Trap fight really was ruined by the spamming homing enemies. I recommend getting the E-tanks to fight them, as well as the weakness. Overall, the hack has amazing graphics and music, but the bosses and level design can bring it down. I still think the musics deserves attention, and half of it isn't bad, but there is some more polished ones out there.
| Rockman 2: ONN - EXCELLENT | Dobu_GM | 2019-04-26 | Version 1.0 |
Rockman 2: ONN Levels: Excellent Graphics: Good Music: Good Enemies: Excellent Bosses: Excellent Weapons: Good (Nearly Excellent) Castle: Excellent Difficulty: HARD Comments: A superb hack with a lot of great changes. The best part about it is its excellent stage design, utilizing enemies in a tricky but not frustrating way. Most deaths will be your fault, though there are a couple of stages that really push you to your limits (Quick Man and Wily 2 for instance). There's enough enemy and boss changes to spice things up (the Boobeam is great), and the weapon adjustments change the way you play the game. The weapons are really nifty, but unfortunately many have been depowered across the board, so you'll be relying on your mega buster for the most part (until the Wily stages). Still, ONN is a master of devious level design, and is worthy of a playthrough for any Mega Man fan.
| Nice, but... | Employee | 2016-04-11 | Version 1.0 |
The graphics and sound in this are pretty well done, but the difficulty level from the beginning is a bit much in my opinion. Some things like climbing ladders and health/item pickups seem to move a bit faster than the original game. This one will definitely take some time to make progress through the levels, as enemy placement and platforming can be quite brutal. Also, some enemies will appear out of nowhere (crabs in Bubbleman's stage). The enemies behaviors are ramped up in difficulty too, even above that of Rockman 2's standard difficulty. Still very much worth a look though. The music is very well done, and overall it's a well made hack with all new level graphics/layouts. Just get ready to see that game over screen a few times.
