| Nice alternative! | P41R47 | 2023-06-03 | Version 1.00 |
I really like the new art for the sprites in here. But I prefer the vanilla version. I always thought that the mask becoming less and less Jason-like and much more demonic in the sequels were made that way to show the true nature of the mask, as shown at the end of Splatterhouse 3. Even so, this hack is just amazing!
| Rick looks awesome | CRT_rex | 2021-10-10 | Version 1.00 |
I never liked the new masks, and the second one is my least favorite (along with the Turbografx-16 port from the original game). I get it, besides the fear of lawsuits, the game was trying to find its own identity, and part of it was a good mask design (which I think the 3rd and 2010 games did well, I like it), but darn it, I love the original hockey mask and the looks of it. After all, it is what the original developers actually had in mind when they created the game, there's no arguing there. Now, the colors here are a change of atmosphere for sure, but I do prefer the original darker colors as well, especially after watching a side-by-side comparison video. To be honest, my interest here lies with having classic Rick only, and not really anything else. So personally, I would have made three patches: fixed colors + classic Rick, fixed colors only and the one missing: classic Rick only. I spoken with a few people who would have liked that as well. That being said, I don't want to be a Negative Nancy or Debbie Downer here, as making those hacks involves a lot of hard work and can be a very thankless job, but I tend to go with the "as many options as possible" route, so that everyone can get what they want, even if it's a niche interest that appeals to a small segment of people. However, that was not the author's intention and I respect that. Still, the dream of a classic Rick change standalone hack still lingers. I'll look into it, see what it would take to make it happen.
| A small change goes a looong way.. | 2spaz | 2021-10-04 | Version 1.00 |
A great hack, but the color part might be hit or miss for some... Though more vibrant, the dark tone of the game is now a little off IMO... A standalone hack with the mask only and perhaps red blood, would be most welcome... Still a very great effort to improve an already great classic. Totally worth a look...
| Absolutely Beautiful | K.K. Drunkinski | 2016-04-23 | Version 1.00 |
I've been wanting to be able to play as Classic Rick in Splatterhouse 2 for years, and this hack not only delivers the goods in that area, but the new color palette makes the entire game far more appealing to the eye than it ever was before. If you're a Splatterhouse fan, you owe it to yourself to get ahold of this hack ASAP.
| Splatterhouse 2 never looked that fantastic before!! | FeRcHuLeS | 2016-04-22 | Version 1.00 |
One word for this hack is ¡¡¡Greatness!!!, The Sega Mega Drive/Genesis is reborning as this kind of hacks are released, from the beginning to the end is marvelous the way the palette is used, in the intro the trees were a variation of red now they are brown how they were supposed to be, from the first to the final stage it can feel the backgrounds depth now, the elevator stages look beautiful before they were the most boring stages for me, the house stage is a tribute to the first entry in the series using a similar palette. The characters such as the bugs, the zombies, the bosses such as the Bloodpuppets (third boss), Bellyache (first boss) and so on, they all look impressive. Bellyache for example his teeth stand out now, some of the character were tile tweaked that fact stands out to the eyes for good. The mask details are cool, It seems to be based on Jason's from Friday 13th just like every Splatterhouse fan always claimed, all the details for the mask on the opening stage screen such as: the nose part, the air holes, the eyes hole, the recently added scratches, the holder never looked better. In a few words the graphics don't look off at all, the background depth is felt as if there was another background layer (a little exaggerated hehehe..), the right colors had been chosen for enemies and bosses, The splatterhouse 2 atmosphere is magnificent as It was never before.
