Hack description

A SRAM hack of Super Mario Bros. 3, which allows progress to be saved. Now at v7. Works on all emulators, and on NES via carts and powerpak. UPDATE was required due to mini game error with scores.

Simply reset or power off the emulator and progress should be saved for when the game is turned back on again.

It's baffling to me that there's an SRAM hack in the first place.tsubasaplayer162024-05-25Version 7

For the longest time, before I bought the game myself on the 3DS, I thought it had a save feature. With a game this big for a Mario game, you would think that it would at least have that, but it doesn't! Either way, I'm glad that it exists. Sure, save states exist, even playing on an Everdrive, but it doesn't feel "official", or rather "authentic", as ironic as those may seem. So far, the one thing that doesn't save is your power-up state, meaning if you reset/turned off the game and went back, you resume as small Mario. Anyway, good hack.

It should've been released this wayzstandig2023-02-13Version 7

I'm appreciative that this hack exists. While it may seem silly in the age of save states, having the ability to save makes playing Super Mario Bros 3 on a flash cartridge much more enjoyable.

The game is long enough that I feel Nintendo made a serious mistake to not release Super Mario Bros 3 with a save feature

What a wonderful thing to provide to the romhacking community. Thank you for this.

Good base for people who want their SMB3 hacks to save progressGamma V2018-06-30Version 7

I recently started hacking SMB3 and thought it would be nice if my hack saved players' progress. I patched this to my in-progress hack (not without making a backup), and it seems to work very nicely so far. I recommend this, not just as an enhancement to the original game that gives it what it should've had from the start, but as a base ROM for people who want a save feature in their SMB3 hacks.

Great hack, but outdatedAr8temis0082017-05-08Version 7

This is an absolutely wonderful hack that works flawlessly even with the other improvement hacks. That being said, I would suggest getting the All Stars NES hack instead, because it's just this but with the other 3 nes games as well.

The perfect version , but ...darthvaderx2016-08-01Version 7

I don't know howsidnoway2016-06-22Version 7

I don't know how, but it works FLAWLESSLY with the itemslot hack. It's not even configured to do the item thing but wow, it works.

Just the way it should have been.MathUser29292016-06-13Version 7

When Nintendo made this massive action game they really should have added SRAM. I know those watch batteries aren't cheap but the goodwill would have been appreciated. It wasn't till Super Mario All-Stars that we finally got SRAM at the cost of the original games personality (graphics). Make this your default SMB3 ROM.
