Hack description

Super Mario World Redrawn was released by icegoom as a graphics replacement pack. It requires Lunar Magic to re-insert the new graphical data and is geared towards anyone starting work on a Super Mario World hack who wants a complete and stylistically consistent sprite-set. Be sure to check it out over at SMW Central. The pack contains some other goodies as well.

For those who just want to play Super Mario World with the new graphics and not mess with Lunar Magic, this patch has been created for your convenience.

Probably the best looking version I've ever seen of this gameLostSoulSilver2021-08-19Version 1.0

This. This is beautiful. Truly a commendable display of pure effort and good visual taste. Like, damn!

I can only wonder how long this took, because this is some of the prettiest looking pixel art I've seen in any romhack. It managed to leave a lasting impression on me, someone who with a lot of effort sometimes does pixel art that looks 10% as good as this

Highly detailed and the colors compliment each other neatly

Almost flawless patch!SaveState2019-03-18Version 1.0

I enjoyed playing this graphics modification. It really gave a new feel to the game similar to NSMB Wii or DS. I love the sprite work here, except the fire Mario's colors kinda drive me crazy. I don't really like the palette given to fire Mario, but everything else is perfect.

Good idea, questionable choicespocket2017-10-19Version 1.0

I'm likely in the minority here but I always felt like the original Super Mario World was kind of an ugly looking game ( A Link to the Past too, wheres my ALTTP redrawn? ). So I was pretty excited to see a new set of graphics that appeared to be highly polished for this old classic. I finally finished playing the entire game today.

My thoughts are it's a step in the right direction, a lot of the enemy sprites look fantastic, there's no oddities like green Bowser or orange armed Yoshi ( the Koopalings are still miscolored though ). The ground and backdrop look great. I do have some complaints though.

My biggest complaints are the Fire Mario sprite is just normal Mario with orange in place of red, and it looks really ugly. Then there's the Mario sprite itself, which is for some reason a perfect side view at all times, I feel like this doesn't look right, and Mario should be turned about 3/4, so we get more detail in his face and he looks less stiff. I also think that Yoshi's pretty stiff too. He doesn't even get that comical "stuffed mouth" look when he's holding something in his mouth anymore. Lastly, I feel like the Galoombas shouldn't have been changed to goombas, since they're officially different enemies who behave differently.

There also seems to be an issue with the map screen on butter bridge and the forest of illusion, with the path not filling out all the way, and the trees losing their faces. The colors in general seem to be a bit muted.

I feel like this game's problem is that it's trying to capture the modern look of the New Super Mario titles, with half the color, but instead, they should aim to recreate the official artwork in the super mario world instruction booklet, but with modern day competence.

I don't recommend you play through super mario world with this graphics patch, instead, look for a romhack that uses these assets, there's plenty of them. I'l keep on waiting for a coat of paint that feels more true to the 90's Mario games than the Wii games. ( and a Link to the Past too, hint hint )

Visually pleasant despite the glitchesTsukiyomaru02016-07-06Version 1.0

There were some visual glitches, like the water in the world map, a crash after the ghost house, Blocks in the hidden bonus areas would "glitch" after hit... Otherwise, this romhack is very pleasant visually speaking, does what it promises, is very detailed and all.

Very nice looking sprite workReal_Character2016-07-06Version 1.0

All the graphics are changed, and overall for the better. There are errors in the graphics, such as those already mentioned, and also others, such small Mario's sprite looks offset near the hat, when he does the end level peace sign while riding a yoshi. I also notice other small stuff that appears to be more like a design issue, such as the wonky princess animation at the end, when she walks towards Mario. That said, it's still a great graphics hack, and even the ending screen is changed.

The right way to reimagine a classic's look.Chronosplit2016-07-03Version 1.0

Yes, this pack is meant for the large amount of SMBW hacks out there. You'll find no gameplay changes at all on this patch. But this makes a huge impact on it's own and fits just perfect within the main game. Everything is more detailed and definitely it's own, yet at the same time quite faithful to the original. My only gripe is Fire Mario may be a bit off for my personal taste, but other than that? These graphics knock it out of the park!
