Poorly and evilly designedyyna2023-12-07Version 1.0

Many places show a lack of good design, such as poor enemy placement (mostly that)

Here are a few examples:

  • Flash Man's few screens with the Force Beams: brutally difficult, especially if you come from bosses like Heat Man that will just let you spam B and stun him. 2nd and 3rd screen
  • The Robo-Rabbits in Air Man
  • Wily 4 in general

Quick Man's weapon is buggy. The idea is neat, but poorly executed.

But what REALLY bothered me was Wily levels. There are a few places where if you don t have item-1 or item-3 you can literally go reset your console.

  • Wily 1 starts with a large hole that requires you to use a solid 3/4 of your ammo. If you die between the screen after that and the checkpoint, feel free to game over, it ll save your time.
  • And it s not just that! You will need to use item-1 before the checkpoint. After the checkpoint, you will have just enough item-1 or item-3 to make through another one of these item restricted screens. So, once again, if you die, game over will save you.
  • Now onto Wily 2. There is a 6 tile deep hole in that stage, and that will softlock you if you are out of item-1 or item-3. Interesting design.
  • Finally, Wily 3 is overall a joke.

Rating: 3/10 Some ideas are fun, but poorly executed. The enemy placement is terrifying in some places

Difficulty: 8/10 Flash Man. I won t say more

Awesome musics, but big design flawsTimaeus2020-04-04Version 1.0

Level design 3/10

The level design is.....hard to explain. There is parts of it that are enjoyable, and others that ruins the gameplay and experience entirely. Flash Man stage is just bs in dificulty. One screen requires a very precision jump to go through the force beams, which is a painful nightmare without save-states or hacking. Even with save states, it is still frustrating. Wood Man stage could be better without the ladder replacement, because even with the arrow, it can be easy to miss it, and the stage requires the player to know that the woody pillars are ladders. A note saying "climb" with the arrow would work much better. Heat Man's stage is too busy with enemies, but my problem with it (outside the VERY unfitting water pipe theme) is that if you do not jump while entering the boss door, you will get hit by him since there is a water flow pushing you, which is a very bad design move. Quickman's stage do not tell that the eletric bars (which blends alot with the yellow tech background) are instant kill, and later on you have to choose between three gaps to drop in, but with two of them having the death bars in a way that you simply cannot avoid. That part (which happen twice by the way) is pure lucky guess and it is super unfair to die or live by pure lucky. Another very bad move. Airman's stage have an enemy that, if you do not kill it, the next rom will have invisible floors between pits. Another bad move. Wily 6 have the acid droppers without their indication of where they will drop from. This one did not hurted the gameplay that much, but it is still a flaw. Finally, the Wily stages have a boring level design that rely on utilities alot and with no logical puzzles or something. Not only it is just a waste of time, but there are pretty much no weapon capsules to refill the items. When you find one, you cannot know which item to refill, and you have to worry about that because the level design abuse the use of the three items with pretty much no refills. Also, if you die, you will not have enough ammo to move on, forcing you to kill yourself or farm (it is not easy to farm, since there is few enemies and they are hard to deal with). The gigantic lack of ammo also hurts the final boss as well.

While all the rest that was not mentioned is good, all of those problems and little/wierd design issues makes the game a big pain to play at first. The only way to play it is knowing how the game works and using save states on your favor.

Music: 9/10

The musics here are awesome! They are funny to hear and I liked most of them alot. Some are forgetable, but almost all of them are just really neat!

Graphics: 4/10

The graphics here are....more and less. Most of it is just the same colors over and over, repetition and overall, they look too simple considering that Megaman 2 have a bigger space for graphics per stage. They feel like they were implemented in Megaman 1 instead (where it is alot more limited in that way). More variety in colors and more tiles are necessary here. They do not look wrong or plain bad, but they could have been better.

Bosses: 7/10

The bosses are not bad and can be defeated buster only. Some of them are abit too easy though. Also, some are unchanged for no reason, but hey, it is better than a frustrating boss at least. The bigger points are for the fact that you can beat them with the buster, but I wish some of them were edited more deeply somehow, like Wood Man and Crash Man was, which requires a different strategy to beat.

Weapons: 3,5/10

The arsenal here is almost the same as the original, and the changed weapons, outside the Crash Bomb and Bubble Lead (the concept of it, since it still do not work in most enemies), were not good enough. Also, Quick Boomerang is glitchy and cannot hit the enemy properly. I was disappointed by the arsenal here. I wish the weapons had at the very least a better balance (more ammo for the ones that drains too fast and make all of them hit all the enemies with different but manageable damage inputs).

Overall, this hack will be painful for those that do not know how the hack was built beforehand, but when you know how to deal with it, it is kinda fun, but its not a big experience outside the amazing music. There are better ones out there that are fun and have more polishment. If you played them and want to try this one, skip Flashman's stage and prepare savestates for the wily stages. I still think it worth checking it out, especially because of the soundtrack.

A good hack plagued by various issues...8.bit.fan2017-02-01Version 1.0

First of all, I'd just like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the good parts of this hack, which are the majority of the hack. HOWEVER, there are several GLARING issues that keep it from being one of the best. Some of these are Flashman's stage, several areas in Wily stages where you can get stuck and have to reset, and Quickman's buggy weapon. I really wanted to love this hack, but those issues mentioned are more or less game breaking, which is a shame.

Gameplay - 8/10

Aside from the 3 issues I mentioned, the gameplay is great and is a fine hack. Most levels are well designed with good and fun challenges. Weapons are revamped and so are the enemy/boss AIs.

Difficulty - 7/10 (not including Flashman's stage)

The difficulty is perfect except for the excruciatingly difficult laser section in Flashman's stage which I'll get into. Aside from that, the challenge is just a bit easier than Gray Zone, and much easier than No Constancy and Exile. The bosses are all in the moderate difficulty range, making this hack actually very fun to play leisurely. HOWEVER, let's get back to the nightmarish laser section in Flashman's stage. The difficulty spike goes from 0 to 100 in this section in comparison to the rest of the hack, making it stick out like a sore thumb. And may I ask why?? Why even do that to a perfectly fine hack???? The section is only 4 screens long but on the last one you are required to do a pixel perfectly timed jump in order to survive. Just merely moving in the right direction won't cut it. You need to know your MM2 physics and to apply it perfectly, all the while trying to make a clear path on a flickering light. And if you don't, have fun starting from the beginning of the set. I must have tried more than 50 times and I finally gave up having to start over each time I lose all 3 lives. To this day, I am unable to beat this part without savestates. My suggestion: for a much more enjoyable experience with this hack, I suggest entering a password with Flashman's stage already beaten and go from there.

Music - 9/10

The music is phenomenal in this hack. It's right up there as one of my favorites along with Exile, No Constancy, and Gray Zone.

Graphics - 8/10

The graphics are great for the most part. Though there are areas that are more bland and could use more work. Overall very pleasant to look at.

Hacking Effort - 7.5/10

There are glitches to be found here and there. In the boss fight with Metal Man, you are actually able to leave the screen! Though Metal Man follows you on each screen so you're essentially still fight him...this could actually make a cool hacking idea. Quickman's weapon is buggy, though I'm not sure that's intended. Other issues are areas in Wily's stages where you can get stuck if you don't have enough special items. There are no enemies either in those areas so you can be trapped in a pit and will need to reset the game.

Overall - 8/10

Overall, this is a fun hack and could have been a great hack if not for those glaring issues. The stages for the most part are well designed and fun to play. The OST is great which makes the playing experience very enjoyable. I do recommend this hack, but do yourself a favor and skip Flashman's stage!

Tricky Challengeananda2012-03-20-

I played your game and I like the new musics. Some of them are good for listen. I LOVE THE DSCHINGIS KHAN SONG!!! Great composing! The stages itself, some gimmicks are unfair. I played Quickman's stage, but I found laser in Flashman's stage. Oh my, oh my... But the Flashman's stage itsetf, very creative layout! I like the stage with the switching lamp gimmick, ESPECIALLY THE LASERS!!! I REALLY LOVE THE LASERS IN THAT STAGE! I don't care about Flash Stopper for the laser, the question just: Why the laser section just four room? And why there is WATER in HEATman stage...? Impossible! This hacks not for newbie. If you're master of megaman game, you should try this hack.

Enough is Enough!!!Plint Michigan2011-10-21-

When it comes to Megaman hacks, I usually don't care as long as there's new music and increased difficulty. And speaking of music, we have a few recognizable ones, but most of it's obscure. In the later stages we have the Parodius version of Fantasie Impromptu, Metal Man's stage uses music from Digital Devil Children for the gameboy, Heatman's theme is DJ K.K. from Animal Crossing, and except for the obvious Kirby stage, the rest I have no idea.

And when I say later stage, that's an assumption. I hacked into this game in order to grab it's NSF files so I don't know what level it's on. And why don't I know what level it's on? Simple, this hack's too (expletive) HARD!!! I have never been able to beat the stages without hacking, and that's because they throw so many cheap shots at you. Heatman's stage causes you to move towards him by... water flowage? WATER FLOWAGE!?! THIS IS HEAT MAN'S STAGE!!! THERE SHOULDN'T BE WATER HERE!!! ...Where was I? Oh yeah, and the fight between Heatman doesn't start until you two touch each other, so no matter what, you're going to get hit by him. And then we have Quickman's stage. Those little blips on those screens kill you, and eventually you'll come across a section where you have to jump so lightly you will avoid contact with them on your way to the next platform. And unless you use the turbo button or hack, it's impossible to preform. And don't even get me started with Flashman's stage. In order to get past lasers of death easier, you need to beat Flashman. Unfortunately, the lasers of death you're supposed to freeze with the flash beam just happen to reside in Flashman's stage. Seriously, they expect us to get through all that!!!

All I can say is that if you like your games tough as nails, then this game will even make YOU crying for your mother. But if you have an NSF ripper, the soundtrack is at least worth checking out.
