| Cute little "Kart Fighter but reversed" hack | KKHell | 2021-12-20 | Version 1.1 |
This is quite a nice graphical hack that I want to see turned into a total conversion. I haven't really run into any major problems with the hack, all that comes to mind are graphical nitpicks. Evil Ryu feels like he was obviously the first character hacked in due to his palette matching up with Mario's (though to be fair the original Super Mario Kart had odd roster choices too). Ken's hair reflections being mapped to his skin tone instead of a shade of white looks a bit off. Blanka and Zangief are blatant sprite edits of Bowser and DK Jr. respectively, although considering how these two look in official Street Fighter stuff I'd give it a pass.
| Amazing but minor errors | thedarkbanshee | 2018-03-04 | Version 1.1 |
Hyper street kart has really hit the jackpot on capturing what makes a good game. The description is so humble in lack of detail. New title screen New characters - old driving style Ending graphics replaced New graphics from background to the actual tracks New weapons graphics - not all all new tracks - mostly first track redone with additions I played this threw and threw. Honestly a bit to easy but then again I am a veteran at this game. As amazing as this is it has failures Failures Special cup second track (Chunli Beach) AI is completely broken. The track its self is really hard for even a player so if the AI did work I would assume it would result in a loss. I can overlook this as it is still a fun and challenging map all by yourself. There is more failures Snow tracks are a slight problem. the game goes from easy to extraordinarily hard. These tracks have out of bounds zones directly connected to the road. One minor slip up and its all over, no joke. This brings me to the next problem, Battle mode. Battle mode Lots of great work went into making the battle maps. Well thought out designs however there is a Snow Arena that looks to be amazing fun up and till the point you go to play it. Start off Lakitu grabs both players and moves them in a derivable location which happens to be the out edge of the Arena. All in the center is snow that is setup as out of bounds. Most of the weapons are located in the snow aka out of bounds. battle can go for a bit but this results in a draw every match as the outer weapons never reset to continue the battle. Other minor issues Thwamps disappearing as you approach them resulting in no effect on the player. Tracks with so few coins the AI spins you out like crazy. It makes an easy game more challenging sure but it seems to me faster AI is more appropriate then avoiding AI like the plague or you turn the game into a spin out session. I know I appear to Bash this hack into the ground like it is trash. I promise that is in no way intended here. I absolutely recommend this hack to every Super Mario Kart fan. I give reviews as I see them and as great as this hack is I can not give a proper review with out giving constructive criticism. Can it be fixed? Yes but Epic Edit breaks the game upon making any changes. So I extracted everything I knew how and ported it over to a fresh rom and then edited all of which I complained about above. Some graphics such as the title screen are something I am looking to fix. Keep an eye on those forums for updates.
| Very cool! | lexluthermiester | 2016-10-12 | Version 1.1 |
While this mod is not a full make over, as the author stated in the readme, it is very well done and fully functional beginning to end. The character representation and animations are spot on while also being seamless. The replacement weapons are a nice touch. The tracks are well thought out and give a well balanced challenge. While there is a lot that could be done further[music, engine tweaks, etc.], what is done already is a quite a lot of fun! Well done authors! You should really consider turning this into a total conversion type mod!
