| Rockman (2) No Constancy It seems nothing unusual, but... | diablo666 | 2021-11-28 | Version 1.0 - 1.3 |
A decent enough hack if you play with the patch on a normal one. With a difficult regime - do not, I still want to regret my nerves. Hard mode - for hardcore Players. Graphics. You know, some levels use graphics like in Megaman X games... And this is normal. If correctly done, then to the place. About the rest of the graphics I can not only say, because I do not know all the references to the VAST universe of MEGAMANS. But not the essence of the reference, but the essence of the interesting graphics. A decent, interestingly chosen palette that the eye rejoices from such pleasant colors. Color - plays a major role here and it works very strongly. There are even, so to speak, particularly memorable levels because of this. Levels. They are pleasant, not annoying, give a certain challenge, because the placement of enemies, and the structure of these stages - give a special balance and levels slowly, but increase the degree of interest. It seemed to me that the levels themselves are playing fair with you... They can even make a joke sometimes (Flashman stage - Quick Laser attack) Level features. The first thing I noticed only in this hack is the "wind" in the Airman stage. When we are indoors, we are not pushed back. And yet - with this feature - it is more difficult to make jumps. Interesting, even very interesting. Second feature: Tricky appearance of Joe's Snipers. This is noticeable in Dr.Wily's Castle. And the third: It may have seemed to me, but gravity is in the same sublevel... But maybe it's well - disguised water... I won't say, because I don't know for sure. Enemies. Each enemy has its own AI. This adds complexity, but does not overload the levels with this complexity. Enemies are placed in the right places, creating a balance of the game, rather than severe pain (as was the case with Megaman Ultra).
Music. It is professionally written. Very pleasant to the ear, suitable for each stage. Gives a special charm.
This review was my longest, because I remember a lot of things... But now to the conclusions. What I liked: +this is a balance of complexity. It builds up gradually, there is no such thing that I was angry because of the curvature. +Music. Well written and selected. +Abilities. They are almost all co-ordinally different from their counterparts. And it's quite interesting. +Bosses. The AI changes did them good, giving them a special spirit of challenge. +Graphics. Although this is focused on some real levels, but made qualitatively. +Levels. Atmospheric, interesting, the complexity is growing gradually. What else is noticeable: redrawing the ability acquisition dialog. There's sister ROLL now. And the Megaman sprite - compare it to the Megaman Х sprite. From minuses: these are Items. They began to disappear faster. And Item 2 - if it accelerates terribly, it will dump you somewhere you don't know. IT'S DANGEROUS. I recommend the "Normal" version, and the "HARD" version is for professionals. You will not be disappointed in this hack. I will be asked why I singled out three versions of the hack at once? The reason is this: each version - changed something. And starting with version 1.0, I recorded this hack in my personal collection.
| Rockman No Constancy - EXCELLENT | Dobu_GM | 2019-04-29 | Version 1.0 |
Rockman No Constancy Levels: Excellent Graphics: Excellent Enemies: Excellent Bosses: Excellent Weapons: Excellent Castle: Excellent Difficulty: MEDIUM Comments: A perfect hack (well, except for that one crusher at the end of Quick Man's stage). Almost every aspect is fantastic: stages are beautiful, robot masters are clever, the new weapons have a lot of utility, the music is astonishing, and it's a sizable challenge for Mega Man 2 vets. Nothing feels cheap, the Wily stages are well balanced (which is a rarity for Mega Man hacks), and the game is buster-only viable. While a few other hacks handle certain aspects better (individual bosses, weapons, stage gimmicks, etc), the entire package here is so adroitly put-together that it has yet to be outdone, and likely never will. Rockman No Constancy is the cream of the crop!
| One of the best romhacks | brickmanThebrick:v | 2018-05-14 | Version 1.0 and 1. |
This is one of the best romhacks that I found of Mega Man. I loved this game and one day surfing the internet (boring) look for this romhack to download it, and I see that IKA updated the hack and re-play this game, I saw that under a little the difficulty (or perhaps it is because before I played it a lot :p) and it became my favorite romhack. I know there are better romhacks eg: Rockman 4 Minus Infinity and Rockman CX, but still this is my favorite for its levels e.g.: Airman stage and Flashman for his music e.g.: all stages :D And how to forget the background e.g.: all backgrounds are good :) I would love to contribute something more to this game or at least help translate it. See you in another Review (maybe)
| A New Classic | Mother Kojiro | 2017-11-22 | Version 1.0 |
This is probably the first Mega Man hack that totally blew me away, and with good reason: it's a total overhaul of Mega Man 2. New palettes galore, new tilesets for stages, new boss behavior and palettes, new weapon palettes, new weapons, new music; EVERYTHING. I don't recognize most of the music, but what's here is always close to perfect, and there's so much emotion when pushed through Mega Man 2's soundfont. Perhaps my favorite song is the one that plays on the title screen, which is noble and melancholy at the same time, and like many of the tunes in the game, reminds me of something you might hear in a lost Capcom game from the Willow era. What got me even more were the actual stages. You'll explore beautiful deserts at sunset, blue skies at dawn, undersea ruins, and more. I love how even though Flash Man's stage just uses the cave tileset from Yoshi's Island, the bright 8-bit colors breathe new life into them, and the same can be said for the new enemy palettes. The Wily stages start off with a real bang, too, as you infiltrate his base underwater in absolute silence; it's quite an experience. I do have to address that the levels can be unfair and/or tedious at times, with some real precision jumps and lots of Item usage - states are recommended - but if you ask me, it's worth it for what beauty this hack has to offer.
| Overrated | Kallisto | 2017-03-24 | Version 1.0 |
I really don't see the praise for this romhack, this romhack is littered with problems, and I'm going to break it down what I saw that is problematic: 1) The enemies are placed in such a way in almost every stage to the point where you'll never be ready, and almost always results in a cheap shot. 2) The use of platforming is ridiculous in this romhack. Too many over complicated obstacles combined with enemies which makes harder than it needs to be. 3) The bosses are completely unbalanced, and your hope to dodge anything is impossible, and I finally gave up when I fought Wily when I knew I didn't have any weapon energy leftover to take him out. Oh you wanted to use your mega buster!? TOO BAD! EF YOU! However not everything is bad in this romhack: 1) Custom stages are incredibly nice. 2) Custom Weapons are unique. 3) Custom Music makes the game more better. 4) Some of the touched sprite work is pretty nice. HOWEVER Due to the glaring problems with this romhack, I just cannot recommend it. Maybe for the speed runners that want some kind of odd gratification which I've seen on youtube, but I just cannot recommend it for the normal player.
| A ''different'' expensive hack | Timaeus | 2015-10-20 | Version 1.0 |
This hack basically mixes what some others mm2 complete hacks have in common, in this case claw 2 and any other. Claw 2 is more straight forward, without boring and repetitive utilities parts, and others use the most common thing: a level design that takes time to get through. No constancy mix both cases, cuz the stages are well done and the fortress takes a time to get through. I honestly didn´t like this concept, that's why I had to edit the hack to make it better to me (removing the boring parts and cheap sections). But it wasn´t because the hack is cheap, it´s just to cut the difficult a bit to make it good to me. The musics are awesome, with some nice melody (my favorite theme is Crash, Quick and Air). The bosses are interesting, and everything else is great as well. The bad parts might be the laser section in Quick´s stage (bad as always, so forget it) and the blowing sections in Air´s stage. But the description already says about a harder game, so yeah. People that love challenge and don´t care about wasting time in some levels will love this hack, just like every mm fan.
| For Hardcore Players Only! | Chris Miller | 2015-03-05 | Version 1.0 |
The insane amount of effort that was put in to change the levels, graphics, AI and music was what saved this hack from getting a No rating. Unfortunately, the difficulty has been ramped up to levels unheard-of in even the notoriously difficult Mega Man franchise. This is a growing trend among hacks, to feature tons of Kaizo-style jumps, super-strong enemies, and uber-bosses. It turns what would have been a great new experience into something more like struggling through thigh-deep mud. Everything added up pretty much makes the game unplayable for anyone who is not a hardcore player, like a speedrunner, or at least someone who has the time to grind through hundreds of deaths. And the average player will die many tens of times, without a doubt.
| One of the best! | RRThielNC | 2014-10-20 | - |
Rockman No Constancy is considered by many people to be one of the best, if not THE best Rockman hack of all time. Those are pretty big claims. And, while I wouldn't call it the absolute greatest hack out there, I can wholeheartedly say that it's right up there as one of the best! RNC is a hack that changes the level design, music, tiles, weapons, and boss/enemy A.I, and almost everything in this hack is done very well! First off, this hack looks great. The visually pleasing color palettes, mixed with the very top-notch sprite quality make this hack an absolute treat to look at. Many, if not all of the levels from this hack are references to other games. For example, Air Man Stage is based off the Bubbly Clouds level from Kirby's Dream Land, Flash Man's level is based off a level from Yoshi's Island, and Wily Stage 4 is based off a level from MegaMari. The music in this hack is also very well done. While I didn't recognize any tracks at first, I still enjoyed them greatly. Not only are the songs nicely done, but they also fit their stages very well, which is pretty important for having a good soundtrack. I'm pretty sure there's an NSF file available for download somewhere on the internet, so if you have an NSF player, go crazy with that. The boss/enemy A.I in this hack, while sometimes frustrating, is very impressive and cool. While not all enemies have new patterns, the ones that do are pretty nice. The bosses in this game are impressive, but they can be very tough at times. Most of the bosses are very agile and can hit pretty hard. The final boss, for example, can hit like a bulldozer if you run into him. But that's beside the point. The A.I is very good. Level design is the flavor of the day with a lot of these hacks, and that's because it's damned important. I don't care how pretty your hack looks, how impressive your A.I is, or how good your music is. If you have bad level design, I will deduct points. Luckily, RNC passes with flying colors. Each level is very well put together, providing lots of challenge(sometimes a little too much so), fun, and replay value. The best part about it is that it feels really gratifying when you get really good at it after dying over and over, and there's never a point where I feel dying is the game's fault. Overall, I don't really have anything to complain about with this hack. It looks great, it sounds great, the A.I is great, and the level design is great. While I don't think I would call it the greatest hack of all time, I certainly think you's be doing yourself a disservice by not at the very least giving it a try. I give this hack a full recommendation to go play it!
| Plint Michigan Reviews | Plint Michigan | 2011-09-20 | - |
I have the most random reason for reviewing this game. I've been playing King of Fighters games for a while. One of these is KoF 96, which marks the first appearance of a character named Goentz. This guy kept beating me over and over, so of coarse I got to listen to his theme a lot. Yes, I think you know where this is going. At first I thought nothing of his theme until just recently I was thinking about it and I started to think "Didn't I hear that melody before?" And that's when I dug out a copy of Rockman No Constancy from my thumb drive and played Bubbleman's stage. Sure enough, in 8-bit form, the song playing during the long treacherous temple using graphics from Donkey Kong Land for the Gameboy was none other than the theme of the Orochi King himself, Goentz. But to the review. I like me some Megaman, and I like me a challenge. This game does NOT disappoint on that aspect. We got new music from not just KoF 96, but there are melodies from Megaman Zero, Namco X Capcom, Legend of Valkyrie, and... the rest I have no idea. The graphics are amazing, imitating games like Megaman X, Donkey Kong Land, Yoshi's Island as well as others. But the gameplay is what seals it for me. Sure, it may be your basic Megaman Full-Throttle hack with bells and whistles, but the game is challenging! And by challenging, I mean possible challenging. You don't have any of those unfair traps like in Exhaust where the only way to make it possible is to have the turbo on(Quickman's stage is what I am talking about, of course). This game has pure raw challenge that will satisfy the hunger of a Megaman thrill-seeker. So if you like challenge, this is the game for you. Of course, Megaman fans and people like me who are only interested in full throttle hacks would also be interested as well.
