Hack description

This patch removes the 8 frame delay after changing directions and reduces it to 1 frame. You can still change direction without moving by a quick tap of the direction pad.

The patch only modifies one hex value in the rom. It is a massive improvement over the original game.

You will need an IPS patch installer to patch the rom such as Lunar IPS https://retrohackers.net/utility-details.php?id=240/

Note: This rom can also be patched with the music fix hack without issue.

Not just great, but necessarynejimakipiyo2021-08-12Version 1.0

Thanks for this hack. The movement delay while turning was a huge aggravation; this hack gave me a reason to keep playing the game. I have no patience for clunky action games. You took a mediocre experience and made it a great one.

Freezes controls at times.thennotice2020-12-26Version 1.0

What Animebryan said. It freezes/glitches the controls at times. I thought my controller was broken, but it was the patch.

It ruined the controls!Animebryan2020-11-11Version 1.0

This effect is horrible! There are times when it won't let me move at all after entering a room & it also feels like ice physics at times.

Excellent Patch! Still some left over delay of the old system, though.Apocalypse6122019-04-10Version 1.0

First off, this patch is excellent. It makes it much easier to play the game. I must say, however, that there's still some remants of the old movement delay system still in the code. This issue presents itself when Mike attempts moves into an object or a wall in Dungeon mode. He will get "stuck" for 2 seconds or so before he is able to move again.

That problem aside, I's still say this is HIGHLY recommended. Makes the game much more enjoyable.

Cheers

Perfect, now only if ST2 had similar hack tooJ^P2017-03-02Version 1.0

Awesome, now we need one for the sequel (it also has delay, but only when moving diagonally, try walking in "circle" and you'll notice) :).

It's like the controls has been fixedmadness flame2017-02-21Version 1.0

For those unfamiliar with the game, you'll notice that when you're in a dungeon, there's a small delay when you start to move in a direction that is different than the one you're facing. That mean; if you're going forward and you turn left, you'll have a delay before you start to move in that new direction.

I have not been able to find from a reliable source if this delay in the movement was really wanted or if it was a mistake by Nintendo. However, one thing is sure, many gamers hate that delay, and it was one of the main complain amongst those who didn't like the game.

This patch simply remove the movement delay, so your movements feel more comfortable. Hopefully this patch will also bring more gamers to enjoy this game. For those who didn't like the delay, now with this patch it's like the controls has been fixed.

What I like about this patch, is the fact it is compatible with the music fix patch.

Thanks for making this patch.

Thank you so much!Elecman2017-02-12Version 1.0

This is exactly what Star Tropics needed. I was a king Zelda player in the day, and coming to Star Tropics was frustrating.

That delay in turning always bugged me, and I didn't understand why they did that. Thank you so much for fixing this game.
