Mixed RemixPowerPanda2017-03-29Version 1.2

I have not played through this hack fully yet. I've just sampled the robot master stages. While I love the idea of the hack, the execution needs a bit of polish. The stages seem to be designed so that the most natural actions you do will send you into a bottomless pit or into spikes. I realize the original Megaman V did this too, so I can't complain too much, but it was definitely off-putting. I'll keep playing to the end, because all of this could be forgiven after I get used to this stage designer.

Better than the OriginalMagusLOGS2017-03-10Version 1.2

Mega Man V Second Strike is a Stage redesign Hack with improved Robot Master AI and other minor changes for what i would consider the most forgettable Mega Man game on the NES because it brought nothing new to the franchise except Beat the Bird. The Original Stage design was somehow annoying, the Darkman Robots were uninspired and the final boss was way to easy.

I've played the Original version of Mega Man 5 again to make sure this review is accurate.

The Hack fixes what the Original version was lacking. The new redesigned Stages have a excellent gameplay flow without any annoying parts or bad design choices, bugs or glitches. The difficulty for the new Stages is fair and enjoyable, no frame by frame accuracy movement nor Quicksave function is required. The addition of a second path is a nice idea and gives this Hack a identity and adds replay value.

The new Robot Master AI is also a improvement to the Original version as it makes the game more challenging while not taking it over the top. Beginners may have some struggle with the new Robot Master AI at first but its fair and rewarding once you learn the new pattern. Veterans should be able to adapt to the new pattern without any problems.

Positive:

  • Redesigned Stages with better gameplay flow than the Original
  • More variety in Stages due to the choice of a second path
  • Improved Robot Master AI with more challenging and rewarding boss fights
  • Can be beaten without Quicksave

Negative:

  • Some Robot Masters could be a bit to difficult for beginners. Veterans should adapt to the difficulty without any problems
  • Big Pets Boss a bit to powerful
  • Final Boss could be more challenging
