Hack description

This is a hack that serves as a fanmade sequel to the iconic Symphony of the Night, as such it not only features a brand new story but also features a returning cast of characters such as Richter, Maria, Shaft, Dracula, Succubus, and Alucard. Another it also features is returning items, weapons, and armors from the game as well. There has also be other features carried over from previous Castlevania games such as Maxim Kischine's legendary Stellar Sword, Dark Pain from the Lords of Shadow series, and the Laser Sword from Curse of Darkness. Another thing that has been added is changes to the majority of the music ingame using various fan favorite tracks from previous CV games such as Bloody Tears, Divine Bloodlines, Dracula's Castle, Nocturne, and many more, also there has been a there has been changes made to the ingame difficulty to make this Metroidvania more challenging for the players since Metroidvanias are traditionally rather easy.
For the best visual experience its HIGHLY recommended that you apply the Aria of Sorrow Recolor by JonataGuitar to this hack due to that hack's new palette going along very well with this hack's new sprites.

V1.1 of the hack features new changes from the previous release such as,

1.Changes to the whip knuckle, mach punch, cestus and poison fist animations.

2.Changes to the Dark Pain weapon and Hrunting weapons actually resembling their respective item icons.

and

3.Changes to the enemy stats.

Enjoy.

It is a fantastic hack however, I belief it's great difficulty is too punishing, I found myself farming levels in order to defeat bosses and it honestly kinda ruined my experience. tbh I just wanted to play as alucard not play dark souls on a gameboy game

A very fun, but challenging hackScposteel2021-02-07Version 1.1

This is a lot of fun, and is a nice addition to the Castlevania Lore. While the map and the enemies don't change, it's the story that's changed and it's an interesting tale at that. I had a lot of fun playing through, and while most of the equipment and souls remained the same (there are some changes) this is mainly a story hack. My only gripe with this title is the difficulty spike. This is not an easy hack by any stretch, and you will die a lot. I feel like the difficulty could be lowered just a pinch, but by the time you get to the later parts of the game you won't have much issue playing through, it's just the early stages that might turn some people away.

This should be canon in the series!^_^Ariel Schnee2020-04-30Version 1.1

This is... amazing!^_^

This is the best hack to Aria of Sorrow ever made!^_^

This should be canon in the Castlevania timeline now!^_^ I just loved playing as Alucard here.^_^ And the game ties in neatly with the canon timeline too.^_^ This is something they should have made.^_^ As far as I am concerned, this game is canon now.^_^

very good hack, but where are the items of the hard mode?and Laser Sword?Ralf2020-04-15Version 1.1

Your hack rom is very good, I haven't played this game in a long time and reading the description with changes made (like new weapons and souls) made me want to play again, and it was a great experience, it was very good, I recommend it to everyone who want to revisit this great game, but I noticed two errors: in hard mode, the special items do not appear (Kaiser Knuckle, Silver Gun) only the items already found in normal mode appear, I also did not find the laser sword, I looked everywhere, even I did 100% on the map and I didn't find it, not even in the boss rush mode, I got all the items there, and even then I can't find the laser sword, is this item really in this hack rom ?. other than that the hack is really excellent, very good to play, I got all the souls and the map at 100%, I recommend it to everyone!

Amazing!StarWyvern2019-12-15Version 1.1

If you are looking for an unofficial sequel to Symphony of the Night, this is most definitely it! The story plot change fits perfectly. And playing as Alucard and Richter is RIVETING!

Play this hack until you have completed 100% of it! You will LOVE it!

Although I will note, that the difficulty of this hack is slightly higher than that of the Genya Arikado Hack and the Future Alucard Hack. If you are looking to breeze through this game on a relaxed level, like any veteran of SOTN or AOS, you are sorely mistaken.

One request though. Please make this compatible for patching with AOS Alter and Yukuutski no Minuet/Fantasia. Alucard and Richter deserve an altered or inverted castle. Otherwise it's not really Symphony.

This hack gets a 9/10 from me. Now Do one for Harmony of Dissonance! LOL. Thanks.

And amazing hack!Sayo2017-10-02Version 1.1

I waited for this to come out ever since I first saw your forum post. This hack is amazing and it truly feels like a sequel to SOTN. It's great!

Just awesome.Cuco2017-08-12Version 1.1

I have been a great fan of Castlevania since I was a kid. I have played almost all the games since. One of my favorites being Aria of Sorrow, when I saw this hack I needed to test it

First of all I want to thank Dark Prince because he made it possible. Thank you man. I tried reaching you to send a PM bit couldn't. Your work is awesome and it is well appreciated by real fans and players from around the world.

The hack is just awesome. It feels almost, and it's true, almost like a new game. I have played AoS like mad, for many years, and when I played this one it felt totally a different experience. Just seeing Alucard and those sprites, was excellent. If you, like me, appreciate Castlevania games, when you see the first time that Alucard is here, man you just feel goosebumps.

Don't want to spoil more, but this hack is definitely, absolutely fantastic. You just need to play it. Even if you have finished AoS 10 times or more like me.

Cheers to the creator. Thank you once more. You gave this awesome game, another life.

Fantastically Challengingesharp892017-07-31Version 1.1

I'd played AOS years ago but I found myself needing to look up strategies to bosses I plowed through before. The hackers weren't kidding when they said they upped the difficultly. I died. A lot. Just touching regular enemies can be a deadly mistake. But it was so satisfying to find the right souls combination to triumph eventually.

All in all I liked the new story. It's really exciting to play another adventure as Alucard that isn't just a simple sprite swap. It was interesting to bring back the Succubus, I just wish more was done with her character after (spoilers) paralyzed by Dracula. At that point she needs to die or have more character actions and development. Because she's kept alive and sleeping I expected her to show up in the Chaos Realm or something. Also I found her scene in the Clocktower after the one in the water realm near the Cemetery, so it didn't make sense. I didn't realize that I was sequence breaking.

Some of Soma's sprites and animations are still in the game (losing Chaos fight, credits), which briefly breaks the illusion of a new game.

The music for the opening Dracula's Castle is alright, but could use some oomph. Similarly the battle with Richter's music was ok but could have used some ante.

But these are just minor critiques. This hack everything you could hope for in a hack really. It's got a new story, it's got hardtype second-quest style difficulty that pressed my limits as a retro and Castlevania vet, and most of all I couldn't stop playing until I'd beaten it.

It is my hope that the above critiques are addressed in a future update for the hack and I will gleefully play it again.

ALSO, I'd love to see the same team take on a hack of Dawn of Sorrow as a follow up to the story of Dawn of Symphony. Of course it would need to feature the Dawn of Dignity portrait swaps.

Thanks so much to the whole team for working on this project!

My thoughts so far...Emberson2017-07-30Version 1.1

I'd like to begin by saying that I have not played very far in. At the time of this comment, I have gotten to the Creaking Skull after filling as much map as possible. The animation for Alucard is amazing, and Maria doesn't look bad herself, but everything else that I can praise is a result of this game being Aria of Sorrow. The story is very bare bones, but I went in expecting that to be the case. It needs some tuning if it wants to grab the player's interest. Speaking of tuning, I was ecstatic to hear the intro to "Dracula's Castle". It has a great buildup to what is again an amazing song is what I would say if it built up anything at all. Instead, the song stays very quiet like the intro, and is missing the soft, sad climax of the original piece. Absent is the punch of the PSONE original, but that's to be expected on GBA hardware, but if I can't compare it to the original I have to compare it to the previous Entrance Hall theme, and it still doesn't stack up. I'm excited to see if anything has changed for the better as I progress, but as of now I feel that it is sorely lacking. I have some suggestions for the next update.

1. Fix the [Hold Up] animation's flickering problem. 2. While it would not be a huge grievance if this was ignored, I would rewrite the dialogue to deliver a more interesting narrative. 3. Add a crunchier, louder bass to what exists now in "Dracula's Castle, and maybe put in the ending piece to complete the song.

I look forward to future builds of this project. Here's hoping for a better V.1.2.

Fantastic!malucard2017-07-14Version 1.1

I created an account on here just to say that this is amazing!

As someone who loves the series, especially SOTN and AOS, this is incredible. Keep up the great work and best of luck!

Awesome!WebSlinger2017-03-27Version 1.1

This is simply amazing so far! I loved how the story began and the intro! I so can't wait till Alucard has a faceset in the MENU with his name. The gravity of his jump is a bit heavy though, but other than that, the game is awesome so far!! Can't wait till more updates!
