As a kid, most graphical issues in NES games flew over my head, and TMNT2 is no exception. I brushed off anything that looked slightly off as just a quirk of the NES, and I never gave it much thought until years later, when hacks like this pointed them out. Admittedly, the graphical fixes that this hack provides are hard to appreciate because I'm too focused on surviving each stage and its barrage of nasty enemies with as many lives as possible, though I did immediately notice the lack of Pizza Hut ads in the first stage. Most of the details are subtle enough that I have to pause to take a good look at them, and even then, I needed some before-and-after shots to really soak it all in. Still, I'm glad to have the cleaner presentation that this hack offers. The star of the show here is the new-and-improved attack mechanics for the jump kick and special attack from the Japanese version, which feel unbelievably nice. The added flexibility gives me a greater sense of control in combat, which perhaps makes the game feel easier, but only by a small margin. It's much more balanced this way but the game is still hard. This is probably an unpopular opinion but I actually wish that the hack didn't do away with the Pizza Hut ads. Yeah, it's 90's product placement done to an obnoxious level, and that logo is outdated today, but having grown up with this game in my collection, it's a touch of wistful nostalgia that I'm sad to see gone. I'm hoping that SCD will one day revisit this and add an optional patch to restore the ads. Overall, this is an excellent hack, and although I would love to have the Pizza Hut ads restored, I don't see myself going back to the base game. The cleaner graphics and improved attack mechanics are way too good to trade in for corporate product placements.

Nice little clean-up of a few graphical errors and dated material. All of the sprite hiccups have been fixed, and the cheesy Pizza Hut ads (pun fully intended) have been removed. The HP adjustment of the Foot Soldiers makes it more faithful to the Japanese version, but it also makes the game little less challenging. Overall, a nice adjustment to the NES version of the game. Strongly recommended.
