This is not only about being able to "cheat" with those codes, no, it is far more than that. Every since I first read of a "secret sound select mode" for Super Probotector in a european magazine back in the day, I wanted that trick to work with my Super Probotector. When the internet became the number one source for such things, I finally found out that the code actually exists, but only in the japanese version. To my dismay, the japanese version resembles Contra - no robot protagonists.

I tried to hack that rom myself, many times. I tried to compare it with the japanese release, even got the japanese prototype rom of Super Probotector and looked at the differences. Still can't imagine what was necessary to make it work but it does. And not only was the hack made for the US version of Contra III, it was also done for Super Probotector. Historically, this actually perfects this game for me in a way few will understand.

Thanks to the author RealGaea for sharing this, it seriously brought a tear to my eye. Not kidding in the slightest. Was a manly tear, though.
