Hack description

What this hack does:

This hack attempts to modernize the beloved cult classic The Battle of Olympus by giving it SRAM Saving function plus other various re-balancing adjustments to the game.

List of features, additions and changes:

1) Added SRAM Saving function! Speaking to the gods will SAVE the game, and pressing START at the password input screen will LOAD the game at an instant!

2) To reduce grinding, the drop rate for Olives has been increased. While the original game was great, the item prices were extremely high and grinding for Olives can take the enjoyment out of the game. Not to mention losing 1/2 of the Olives upon dying, which is why that issue has also been addressed...

3) The player now loses 1/8 of the Olives instead of 1/2 upon dying. This greatly reduced the frustration of losing/grinding Olives in the game, while keeping the overall difficulty. Minimal Olives grinding is still present.

4) Various texts changes and additions.

5) Passwords are still present and usable, so feel free to enter that super code!

6) 2 optional patches:
- Adds blocks that extend the shores of Argolis leading to Phrygia.
- Optional patch that reverts to losing 1/2 of the Olives upon death.

Special thanks:
nesrocks, abw, Psyklax, and KingMike

SRAM-Save helps a lot, but the game is still unfairly hardYuriFerro2022-02-22Version 1.1

This patch will surely make BoL better than it originally was, thanks mostly to the increased rate of olives. But, for a Re-balance hack, this one still has a lot to do. Playing it to the end was like a purgatory. The worst thing was being knocked off after every hit and falling to a hole (since the hit box is so small and most enemies just move randomly, you can imagine the hell it is). Also, I believe that the stair movement could be improved, allowing the player to fall from it anytime. Moving on, Crete is pointlessly hard, sometimes more than the last dungeon; it could be simplified and made easier somehow. As for the last boss, I can't express the frustration of dying and having to redo last dungeon; a checkpoint would be immensely helpful.

In short, I recommend this hack only because it gives true improvements over the original game; but if you want a more balanced and not-so-frustrating experience, I recommend to wait until further improvements.

Necessary Changesultimaweapon2021-12-16Version 1.0

This game is brutally difficult, but it's still fun to play. This hack makes things better. Losing half of your olives upon death totally sucks, but now, that's no longer an issue. You won't take as long to bounce back which is necessary with this difficult game. I highly recommend it. I no longer play Battle Of Olympus without this hack.

Save feature is great but balance changes are dealbreaker for meShad0WeN2021-12-14Version 1.0

The SRAM save feature is a great addition as it negates any need to fumble around with passwords in order to resume your game. However as I played through the game I realized that I did not care for the so-called 'balance' changes made to the gameplay. The problem here is that with the alterations that were made it effectively takes away any penalty for dying. You'll lose no more than 12 Olives when doing so and given their drop rate it is fairly easy to replenish them within a minute or two. So basically unless you die several times in quick succession then it has little effect on your Olive supply. Honestly, I think the way things worked with the Olives in the original game was just fine and I would have preferred that it had been left alone. So even though the save feature is definitely a boon here I cannot recommend this hack/mod due to the fact that it makes death in the game mostly inconsequential and in doing so compromises an important aspect of the gameplay in my humble opinion.

P.S. - I did not encounter the bug(s) at Phrygia as mentioned by a previous reviewer (TRIFORCE89). My game patched and played just fine without such issues.

Had Fun, but can't complete it.TRIFORCE892021-03-13Version 1.0

I was enjoying this game. The difficulty balance felt good.

But now I'm in Phrygia and I can't get the final Ambrosia or the Moon Crystal.

The old woman appears to say Artemis' dialogue now by mistaken. And Artemis only saves the game, without the rest of his dialogue. And neither are giving me the items they're supposed to be giving me.

I can't finish the game.

The way it should have been to begin with!

I tried to sprite swap this game to make Morpheus into Link, but it's pixels are infuriating.
