I recommend it because they finished two areas on the map that made the percentage of 200.6% reach 201.1% without having to leave the castle????

SotN's "Quality Hack" made my recent replay of this game even better than my first play. For one, the new and improved screen area goes a long way in making the environment more visible to the player, as well as a nicer-looking menu to boot. Having the loading rooms marked as white on the map was also very helpful in remembering which area is where in Dracula's Castle. The glitch and bug fixes are also a welcome addition towards a smoother gameplay experience. Definitely a hack any player should use to experience one of the best games in the genre in the best way possible. Pair with the "All Access Hack" (tested positive for compatibility) for even better replay value!
| A good hack with one major caveat | Enecororo | 2023-10-10 | Version 1.3 |
To get the good out of the way, the increased real estate is good to have even if it's not the most obvious on the CRT I used, the hatch room feels a little pointless since it doesn't lead to the underground garden, but I assume there wasn't much the hacker could do about that. The loading rooms being marked in white was really helpful and really made navigation that much smoother, and having stereo sound on by default was also a nice addition, though I imagine would not be ideal for those with mono-only CRTs My one major gripe with the romhack is that I would not recommend playing it on an Xstation. While playing through the game I experienced multiple crashes in the middle of saving that did not happen in a vanilla or retranslated copy of the game. If that could be fixed in a 1.4 revision that would be great but for now you've been warned
| Good hack | Greyfox | 2023-10-08 | Version 1.3 |
It is indeed a good hack. Things that I like:
Things I don't like:
But I believe the improvements outweigh the things I don't like. Thanks for the hack.
| A good way to revisit the Classic. | Aceearly1993 | 2022-07-16 | Version 1.3 |
The expanded camera sight works good, especially if the emulator in question is running on a smaller/handheld device. I really dig the expanded camera sight! The inclusion and finalization of previously unused save room under the castle gate might look somewhat abrupt, but in fact it's a welcome change so that you can now save directly after prologue fight without having to go through multiple rooms of the entrance hall. The knockback trick avoiding the meeting with Death under luck name is rulled out, which would disappoint some, but I personally have no issues with it since I always prefer fighting in the castle fair & square. In conclusion, the patch creator paul_met, you have made decent improvements towards the base game without breaking the game's original feels. Many many thanks to you. At last, here's a one-cent request: In PSOne Book version (Japanese Rev. 1.2), the Fire Whip Item Crash actually raises attack power of Richter's whip and gives Fire attribute in addition to regular whip's Holy attribute, which any other versions/revisions lacking this extra buff. I'd like to know if you could make an optional patch to make the Fire Whip Item Crash's mechanic to the same as in PSOne Book version (Japanese Rev. 1.2) or not.
| That's what I love, a full screen SotN! | CaptainHIT | 2020-11-08 | Version 1.3 |
This is a great hack, I always asked myself why those black bars were there in the first place (because of speed, I know). With this hack I can play this game in 60Hz in Retroarch without any problems. Though I'd like this to be applied on the Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku Gemini English translation also, which I've tried and sadly didn't work. Keep up the good work!

Nice improvements. Looks good. When combined with LandonRay's Hardtype hack (hardtype first, then quality) AFTER you've gone to the library and returned to the tower (will be fogged), killing a golden medusa head in the tower from then on will freeze the game. Thanks. NOTE: Turns out the freezing isn't caused by this hack but by HardType. If applying HardType, you need to use this tool to fix the disk so it'll work without crashing on some emulators/hardware: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1264/
| Looks good | CatnipPhilosophy | 2017-08-24 | Version 1.0 |
I've tried this together with the SOTN hard type hack and I don't know if that is the cause but Richter's down, up, jump. special move doesn't work, and Alucard's dark metamorphosis doesn't work either. Otherwise the game looks good with the new screenspace.

Expanding the screen area has fixed the issue I was having playing this on the Raspberry Pi with a 16:10 screen, the black bars would flash black and white at an obscene rate and was extremely uncomfortable to deal with. I would highly suggest this hack for anyone having the same issue, or people that just enjoy having more to look at on screen, and the bug fixes.
