Why making a "Super Luigi Bros. 2" ROM hack when, in the vanilla game, you can just play as Luigi throughout the entire game while leaving out the other playable characters?

Well, another hack is going in my not recommended list and it's this one.

Low effort at its finest.Giga5712017-09-14Version full

I took a look at this with low expectations, and I believe my expectations were met quite handily. The intro text was changed, which I wasn't expecting, but it would be simple enough. The only other changes are that Mario has Luigi's graphics, palette and physics, and that Luigi has Mario's palette and physics. It could be a subtle nod to the desert arc just before Birdo in Superstar Saga, or it could just be laziness.

There are no level design changes, and the color red has been excised from everywhere but the new Mario. And I do mean everywhere - you now have to distinguish between Dark Green Birdo and Light Green Birdo in at least one instance in world 5. The Cherries would cure Imp status if this were Final Fantasy 6, the mushrooms look like they should be giving you extra lives in subspace - this is a perfect hack if you want to see how to turn the color red into the color green within the NES palette limitations, but unfortunately not the other way around. Makes the game look a bit more drab, in my opinion.

I would only recommend this if you for some reason hate Mario to his core, want to see him removed from the Super Mario series, and want to put Luigi in his place; or if you just hate the color red for some reason. I was gonna say if you're colorblind, but this hack actually makes that problem worse by giving two characters the same graphics, palette notwithstanding. It accomplishes its goals, but that by no means makes it worth playing.
