No-Intro Name: Final Fantasy V (Japan)Hack description
As the name implies, this hack is a complete port of the English GBA game's script over the original RPGe fan translation, using Noisecross' FFe Text Editor v1.6. This hack replaces all in-game field text, battle text, spell names, item names, monster names etc. with their relevant GBA equivalents, except where compromises had to be made to accommodate the stricter space limitations of the SNES game. An attempt was made to prefer new creative names over jarring abbreviations where necessary to fit space limitations. Graphics for the fonts were also edited, with the main variable-width font replaced with the thin font from Earthbound, purely because it allowed more space for text, especially in battle. NOTE: As of v1.04, this font has been replaced with a thin font that resembles the font from FF4, for greater consistency.Screenshots

| The font size is fine? | ajdesmarais | 2024-05-14 | Version 1.16 |
I feel like everyone complaining about the font size must be playing on a tablet or smartphone. I'm playing on a 20" crt, and even via composite, the font is perfectly legible. Anyway, great hack. This translation is fun.

The only reason why I would recommend this patch is because it does what it does, which is to bring the GBA script into the original SNES version. My biggest problem with this hack is that the font is too thin and small for it to be readable for on-the-couch play or small screens - you would have to play it like you're on your desk with the monitor in front of you. Even worse if you play the game on real hardware and you only have composite (or RF if you want that aesthetic especially putting it through a VHS) as your primary video connection - it's still readable in my opinion, but it makes the thin font look a bit worse than having near pixel-perfect video quality like using S-Video or RGB/Component. If you're not the type of person to play your SNES on your couch and have a great distance between you and your screen, then the font shouldn't be a big deal. Still, I hope someone would develop a separate patch or at least update this hack so that there would be a readable font that has a good balance between the different methods on how people play their games, such as the font that's used in the RPGe translation or revert it back to the EarthBound font, even though that font was thin too, it was least more readable than what the hack has currently, even on the budget video connections. If the current font is a necessary sacrifice to make the script fit into the text boxes, then so be it.
| Only has one little problem | T29 | 2022-04-09 | Version 1.16 |
I was very excited when I saw that this patch had the translation of the GBA version (which is very accurate to the original script), plus various bug fixes and an FF IV-like font in the menus. But unfortunately, the font used for dialogue is too small, especially if you're playing on a TV. I hope it gets fixed sometime, still, the makers of this patch did an excellent job.
| One major flaw.. | Old_gamer | 2022-02-23 | Version 1.16 |
While this hack goes for all around improvements to the overall game, bug fixes, quick enemy death, ect, and the script port, I cannot get past the font. It's too small and leaves the script box mostly empty and it is difficult to read without hurting your eyes. I can appreciate the other improvements, but I cannot recommend this unfortunately. Sorry. It's an eyesore.
| Incredibly well-done, best of both worlds. | tffRH | 2021-08-08 | Version 1.16 |
If you want to play this amazing game with both the (really funny and well-written) GBA translation, but the GBA audio and visuals turned you off, even with the audio restoration patch, this is the perfect solution. You get the same quality localization, plus the beautiful original SNES sound, exactly as intended. There is only one *tiny* error I've noticed in my nearly 30 hours of play so far: in the Abilities menu, the Samurai LV 3 ability "Evade" contains a small spelling error. It says the skill will increase your "evaison". Other than that I haven't noticed a single other typographical error or glitch! If this is the worst thing I can say about it, you know it's a good patch.
| Amazing - just noticed one little error | jmoral14 | 2020-07-29 | Version 1.15 |
Thanks for porting the GBA script - this easily the best version of FFV over the GBA version. One little error I noticed was right before you fight Magissa, even if Bartz's name is changed, it still displays as "Bartz" when he says the line "Wait...you'd hunt a wind drake!?" Not sure if this occurs anywhere else. If J121 is still working on this, this would be worth fixing in a future update.
| The only sane way to play FFV for SNES | jmd6488 | 2020-07-28 | Version 1.15 |
The ported GBA Script is fantastic in its own right, but the real gem here is the glorious Bugfixes.ini. It has it ALL! Fixes for all the bugs, anomalies and shortcomings that plague this version of the game. And faster enemy death animations was included as the cherry on top! Add in the later 2 romhacks that touch up battle sprites and allow dashing, and you have a wonderful, if not best, version of Final Fantasy V.
| Great, but... | Thirteen 1355 | 2019-06-04 | Version 1.15 |
I feel the font used here (very thin) is very annoying to read. The bold font used in many FF games (including the FF5 fan translations) is much easier on the eyes.
| The Trilogy is Complete! | HARVEST | 2018-01-08 | Version 1.13a |
Alongside this and Rodimus Primal's work on Final Fantasy IV and VI (which are Namingway Edition and Ted Woolsey Uncensored Edition, respectively), the 16-bit Trilogy of Final Fantasy is finally complete in their ultimate English forms. My only complaint is that Final Fantasy V: GBA Script Port is pretty rough and not as jam-packed with fixes as the other patches by Rodimus Primal, though I do understand that it's a very recent project and it's not made by Rodimus Primal. But still, this is the best way to play Final Fantasy V in English. And even if Rodimus Primal never had any involvement in it's actual production, Rodimus Primal himself approved and loved this version, apparently. And with more tweaks and fixes, this patch may even live up to or even exceed Rodimus Primal's standards. I love this one. Just insert it into a flash cart, and you're good to go.
