Hack description

This is a hack of the original Castlevania on NES. xXbelmontXx did all the graphics, sprites, stage designs and the ending while Optomon worked on the music and other things.

The game features:

- New graphics
- New stage designs
- New sprites
- New music
- Map screen has been removed because of it not making sense anymore and replaced by a simple ''level X - Ready'' screen.
- New ending screen

Story:

It has been a 35 years since Simon Belmont's last confrontation with count Dracula. This time, a group of men with evil intents resurrected Dracula with the brutal sacrifice of a virgin. Slowly, monsters are starting to creep into the countryside and soon into the towns and villages of Transylvania. The count roams the earth again. Aware of his family's history, Simon's son, Daniel, grabs his ancestral whip and sets off into the darkness to meet his destiny.

much work lack resultknkn2020-09-30Version 1.0

You able to like: sprites of ghosts (zombies) and look of second level - black walls, blue night sky, bricks. There are nothing more interesting at level design, you just have to do this long-high jump 15 times, over death pits, again and again, and you fall, and you annoyed, you want to see if there are something good, spending hour for jumping and get frustration: bosses are Ugly, levels - and colours is just stress for eyes, Dracula's coffin corrupted, background at laboratory is mess, you ever not need health bar here because only your problem is falling down.

I would skip it if there were no "YES-recommendations", have author wanted to make game better? No he wanted to make it different. If you are looking for same quality different game just replace Castlevania for Dr.Jekil&Mr.Hyde - odd platforming, ugly look.

Good HackVanDam2020-04-18Version 1.0

This is a good hack. I thought it was approximately the same difficulty as the original. A lot of it was easier than the original but there were more difficult jumps at times. The level design was pretty good and they added some things from Castlevania 2. The background and enemies have both changed quite a bit in appearance. Some look like enemies from Castlevania 2. Bosses are basically the same thing but they look different. When you get to Dracula's steps you will hear the music from Dracula's level in Castlevania 2 which I love. It's not exactly the same music but almost. This is a good hack.

Very funny hack with a cartoon design, very well balanced with bosses with very special designs (I am pleased to know that the name of the 2nd boss aka Medusa was taken in word XD). I recommend this hack to those who want a simple and relaxing version of CV.

Someone wanted me to look at this hack and give my two cents. Here's my two cents.

Everything feels like a cartoon with some areas not popping out at all. The main character is a reskin of Simon's Quest Simon with a...bandanna and shorts(?). I get the fact that he's the son of Simon but not an actual twin. The music is nice though feels like it doesn't go with certain areas. The platforming is placed decently though the controls somehow feel stiff. Game play is balanced so that's a plus to this.

Part of me wants to say no to recommendations on this but the balanced game play does make up for it so it passes though barely. I do encourage the author of this hack to go back and redo a lot of his stuff for graphics and make this stand out more as it feels like I was more in a cartoon rather than an actual Castlevania game. I know each of us on here has their own artwork style but this needs to be reworked as it has a lot of potential to stand out more with the music and game play.

Fun hack - good balanceresq2017-10-17Version 1.0

This one seems pretty good - it's fun to play and not too hard.

The level design is pretty decent and not cheap. It's pretty straightforward. The graphics are good in some parts and just okay in others. The title screen is okay I guess - it's pretty basic. Not bad just simple. The graphics are actually a little bad on stage 3 - a lot of blocks everywhere. The graphics on the enemy sprites are quite good though. The bat looks better and more evil. I think there was ghosts that looked pretty good.

The gameplay is good because it stays pretty much true to the original and isn't cheap. There may be a few parts on level 3 or level 4 where it can be hard to notice there is a pit.

Overall I played this up to level 4 and never passed it. It's not too hard though - I'm sure you won't have any problem.

I recommend it because it is a solid hack that isn't cheap and the graphics are pretty good in some parts.
