Hack description

What originally began as a simple "restoration" grew into a full-blown improvement of the original game!

Changes include:

-New Intro/Ending text, or at least a greatly cleaned-up version that reads like it was written by an actual English-speaking human being.
-New Boss text, that's more accurate to the original prototype (sorry, no Mark Soup).
-Most Enemy/Boss sprites changed to the prototype versions, with some recolors (only the Pumpkin Boss remains unchanged, and the jiangshi enemies in Round 7 are still ghosts, as their behavior was altered for the English release).
-Some of the "uglier" Rounds have been given a makeover, mainly palette changes.
-Mark's (and Bert's) sprites are now red in-game, to match his cutscene appearance.
-The infamous Round 7 key glitch is fixed! All three bosses must be defeated to advance.

A wonderful way to experience MPXtremePrime2022-06-23Version 1.1

This mod definitely revitalized my liking for the game. From fixing the infamous Level 7 bug, to the overall presentation improvements to text and levels, this take on a prototype restoration and more is simply a good alternative to playing the original unhacked version, making it a fantastic option for first time players of Monster Party!

Though the gameplay and level design aren't top notch, the real draw of Monster Party is its wackiness, and this hack refines it perfectly. There are so many references, some of which are lost on me, though I recognized Audrey II, The Great Pumpkin, a Xenomorph, and Gizmo. I kinda wish the Planet of the Apes boss had been implemented elsewhere, but what's here is still great. Also, the new dialogue is leaps and bounds ahead of the original text and actually reads like a real person wrote it. This might as well be the best version of this game, and there's little reason to play the original ever again.

Not quite the original.StarWyvern2020-01-05Version 1.1

This is just another interesting take on the prior hack "Prototype Restoration". Really it is great to see more improvements to make this game something that I wanna keep replaying. Nice changes to scenery and sprites make this feel new and refreshing. The gameplay concept remains the same, but with newer content. Anyone who liked the original game should play this hack. Thanks.

Ever since I'd heard that the Japanese version of Monster Party was different, but was never released, I was fascinated by what might have been. When this hack came out, I knew that I had to play it. I don't really know too much about how the original was supposed to be, but I'd thought that more would be changed than this, and I also remember seeing a Planet of the Apes boss room that wasn't here. That said, I still give this a recommend; what is changed is interesting to see, the new dialogue is good, and the whole experience plays like some kind of hypothetical Second Quest, as was common back in the day. I will certainly be keeping both versions of this game in my library.
