I played the original Mario Land 2 - and comparing it with part 1 is a huge leap of progress. But we are not talking about him, but about that, although I will say a moment here.

First of all, it adds colors to all locations, environments, and just different types of characters. According to the color scheme, I will compare it with the NES

The second is, although the same, but still the same player 2. Those who asked for Luigi - here he is

Third, by mixing the light and the game itself, we got a real pleasure and feeling from the game, if it had not been released on a portable device. And this is not a joke. For with good physics (and it's like that in the original), and with juicy graphics (in color scheme) - you can count as an officially unreleased addition on another carige, but already for GBC or GBA

Having grown up with this on Gameboy as a kid, and playing it over a hundred times, this is a long overdue version of a timeless classic. Without doubt, the definitive version of that classic. What a difference a true colour palette makes. I played it all over again just to see how I always imagined it to be as a kid. Look no further.

It became for me one of the most beautiful 2D Marios I've ever seen, everything is very beautiful to look at. And the details: Wario really losing his shoe, the 1-UP Heart that became the 1-UP Mushroom we know (let's face it, it's very strange to see a heart kkkk, in Super Mario Land 3 it's even acceptable), the addiction from Luigi. If I were to complain about something, it would be one more request: make sure that when we have a power-up, like the Fire Flower for example, and we get a Super Mushroom, we don't lose the power-up, that's pretty annoying.

This is the very first Mario game I've ever attempted ever by myself (that wasn't the New Super Mario Bros DS minigames), and it's in color? This is awesome! It really makes a childhood memory feel more alive and vibrant compared to when I initially played it.

This is the hack I've been waiting for for years ! I've been dreaming of a color hack of SMBL2 for a very long time but I don't have the skill to do this myself. The previous color hack was nice but too glitchy, unfortunately. This new one is just perfect, more colorful, the colors are perfectly chosen (the Space world looks especially beautiful), it plays wonderfully, and the ability to unlock Luigi is an awesome bonus. Just perfect ! Thank you very much, toruzz. Now if you could make such a nice color hack of Final Fantasy Adventure, you would make my life complete :D

NEW REVIEW V1.8.1

Revisiting this color hack has been a blast, I'm still not over the amazing color palettes, what great taste and sense of detail are displayed here ! The levels all look amazing. There's no technical issue to report. The only two (ridiculously minor) nipticks I could formulate :

• I think the "W" coin on Wario's castle should be yellow or orange instead of purple.
• Mario's castle, during the ending credits, could use a little more color touches, like on the Mario-cap-sized porch or the tower roofs. Here's a screencap for reference : https://ibb.co/DKFGwdG

Wow. Super Mario Land 2 was already an impressive game, but this hack elevates the game to such incredible heights that the original game now pales in comparison.

The coloring job that toruzz did is stellar, and it's clear that a lot of thought went into how to get the graphical elements in each stage to look right. Everything pops with a vibrancy that we have come to expect from a Mario title, and each area looks so much more alive than when everything was drenched in murky shades of pea-soup green. I also didn't notice any visual latency, which is sometimes a problem with colorization hacks for Game Boy games.

Mario also gets fresh colors that come with the Fire Flower. One change that I thought was particularly clever was the removal of the feather in Mario's cap, which originally served as a visual reminder to the player, but isn't needed here, since the new colors now serve the same purpose.

The cherry on top is being able to play as Luigi, which is an absolute treat for a game that I've beaten numerous times. The fact that he comes with his own signature physics sweeten the deal even more, and it adds so much more replay value to a game that has made countless rounds for years.

Unless you're feeling nostalgic and want to experience the monotone shades of the original, this hack's features are so significant that this DX version easily replaces the base game in my collection. Definitely give this one a download.

This hack is the best Gameboy hack out there. It makes this game look absolutely beautiful, making the best possible use of the GBC's capabilities to enhance the original game tenfold. The use and choice of colors is fantastic and really lends a hand to how this game aged. And in top of that, a playable Luigi was added with new physics? How cool is that! Two big thumbs up to the hacker for this absolute masterpiece!!!

Finally got it working. The problem was the wrong rom. Now it works great. Being able to play as luigi is a big plus. Colors are nice. Physics are spot on. Missing the leaf as fireform is kind of a bummer but no big deal.

Just like Super Mario Land DX, this is a gorgeous colorization hack, and I don't really have a bad word to say about it. Sometimes, the colors would be just as you'd always imagined them; sometimes, they'd be a bright, colorful surprise; and sometimes, you'd have that wonderful palette changing effect used to simulate a setting sun, just like in Super Mario Land DX. Color is great and all, but this has so much care put into it; this really brings the game's visuals to life! As far as I'm concerned, toruzz, you can colorize anything you want; I'll be waiting in line to play it!

Because of your hard work, it's like playing brand new Mario games all over again. toruzz, you are da real MVP. Brings back fond memories. The colorized versions of these Mario games are truly magical.

I don't know if you'll ever get around to creating color hack for WARIO LAND: SUPER MARIO LAND 3, but I truly believe you are the only person capable. Hopefully no one does it before you since I have come to appreciate your touch in these hacks. I got my fingers crossed.

The definitive way to play this game in 2019. Very well done!

Toruzz has don't again and knocked it out of the park. The attention to detail is staggering and he should really be proud of himself. While I know i'm late to the reviews (this is version 1.81 after all) credit where credit is due. Toruzz heard the feedback from fans via the forums and worked hard to fix errors as well as fully incorporating Luigi into the game as an optional playable character as well as bringing the game more in line with the series by altering the sprite for Fire Mario and by altering hearts to be 1-Up Mushrooms for the sake of consistency and I believe these alterations are optional too for all the purists out there. a 10/10 job by Toruzz on this one.

This color hack succeeds in ways other GB color hacks fail. It feels like a DX version done by Nintendo themselves: all the color choices are well-implemented and only improve the game's artstyle. I don't particularly care about playing as Luigi, so I won't comment on that, but I will mention the inconsistencies between overworld colors and level colors. In individual levels, Mario's overalls are blue, but in the overworld they're black. And this also applies to the robot in Mario Zone. You could argue this adds to the charm though, in a Cuphead sort of way.

A friend of mine told me about this hack and so I decided to try it out. The colors looks gorgeous and they add even more charm to an already great game! It has a really fitting choice of palettes too. I absolutely recommend to everyone to revisit Mario Land 2 with this patch applied!

I also really appreciate that Luigi is available as a playable character, but... I have some criticism about the physics of Luigi, which seem kinda unbalanced.

Luigi is slippery and jumps higher and scuttle in other games and it's useful to correct your landing. However in this game he only jumps higher and is slippery, which can make the game easier and also harder. As an example, you can skip some platforming just by jumping higher but in other places like Wario's Castle the platforming is harder, as it requires more precision.

I'd suggest to balance his physics more or make a side patch where his physics are the same as Mario's, even though it kills the purpose of being able to play as a new character.

I still absolutely recommend this patch though, it looks great!

I have always loved this game and wanted this in color for forever, now that time has come!! Very well done and finally a definitive version of SML2.

This is incredible! The colors used really give the game new life. I haven't played this in years and it was like rediscovering it all over again. Great job on this! I am inspired to colorize other game boy titles!

This is something that I always wanted ever since I was a kid. I'm glad that the lag was removed and the ability to play as Luigi makes for a somewhat different experience, akin to Lost Levels (except for the incredibly difficult levels of that game).

This is game is Amazing. The colors are perfect. I love the addition of Luigi and green 1up mushrooms. From now on when I play Super Mario Land 2, I will probably only play this version. WoW!

One of the best hacks ever.

It's just what I wanted with a SML2 hack. I can finally not have to convert it to a SGB file to play it with colour! (Even that doesn't work when I try). Luigi, colour and the fact that it's called DX wants me to buy a GBA SP and a Everdrive.

Just, if you have an emulator, get this game and compare it to a regular SML2 rom.
