Makes 3D Blast as lot better, but is missing one crucial featuresSupergamerguy2021-12-23Version 1.0

This is clearly the only way to play Sonic 3D Blast now, as it makes the game flow much smoother overall. Sonic's improved speed and tighter controls are absolutely needed to get through this game, and the level select map is just the best if you need to go back and collect the emeralds. However, the Chaos Emeralds are where this hack falls short, despite doing so much well. For some reason, whether it be due to coding restrictions or something else, the player can still only collect one Emerald per zone. If you try to collect another Emerald either in the same level or in the same zone (like in any other Sonic game), you just get a chance at an extra life. This is a huge issue, as it means that the player cannot obtain Super Sonic in the main game. Super Sonic is *technically* unlockable in your main playthrough, but you won't be able to use him until you've already beaten all of the main levels (excluding the final boss, although there aren't enough rings in that arena to use Super Sonic either). This almost makes the addition of Super Sonic meaningless, and you can't use it unless you revisit levels for collectibles or maybe time challenges. If this hack had removed the "one Emerald per zone restriction," you should at least have the chance to use Super Sonic in the second half of the game. As the hack stands now, it's leaps and bounds above the original game and should be used by anyone looking to play 3D Blast. It's just very disappointing that *the way you obtain* Super Sonic was not implemented correctly (though Super Sonic functions just fine in my opinion).

The DLC we deserve!diablo6662021-09-10Version 1.0

Someone thinks that I speak from someone else's words. Not at all. I play myself, I check myself and make my own opinion, different from others.

I met with this hack at the Sonic Hacking Contest. And at that time - I already saw a bright future in it.

This creation can be played in the original mode, and in the "director's" mode. It's easier in the "Director's", but all sorts of secrets and other functions are stored there, which are not available in a simple game. It was fun for me to open this GAME from scratch, from the very beginning. Pass time trials, look at the map of locations, collect everything and complete the game on 103%.

Each function is important and complements the original. Who doesn't like the "director's version"? Here is the item: "Original Mod". Start from the last point of progress? Not a problem. Enter the password in the "Load Game". Need to learn the game? "Debug Menu" to help.

There are many possibilities - it complements and improves an already good original, which I love. (I didn't know there were haters of this game). And, honestly, I had no idea that this hacker creation was made by the creators of the Sonic 3D Blast itself. (that's how much love is felt in the project)

From myself: "The hack is great, I recommend it to everyone!"

Good stuff!PresidentLeever2018-05-26Version 1.0

It's a great hack, pretty much every change here is for the better. I absolutely recommend checking this out even if you disliked the original. That said, a few things could be improved still:

  • Spindashing into a regular walls sends you bouncing back quite far which can be disorienting or break your flow a bit
  • I felt triggering the spindash was a bit too rigid - you have to be completely still and not in a slope or it doesn't happen. It also takes a little bit longer to start revving than in the sidescrolling games.
  • If you touch Knuckles with less than 50 rings, you lose all rings (however you only need to collect the difference to enter the bonus level afterwards), which can create difficulty spikes in some levels
  • I would've preferred to have flickie's be drawn towards sonic by default since it breaks your flow a bit when you have to stop and catch each one.

Huge thanks to Jon for making this.

Definitive way to play Sonic 3D BlastDurradonXylles2018-01-11Version 1.0

I actually first played the beta when it was released as part of the hack showcase for the 2017 Sonic Hacking Contest. I was quite impressed by how much better this version of the game was compared to the original, and it has only gotten better with its version 1.0 release over the holidays.

Sonic controls far better, the game is more lenient with how many hits you can take, Flickies are not nearly as much of a pain to collect or keep, there's a nice and simple level select that shows what you've completed in each level, and you can save your progress in the form of a fairly short password. Oh, and you can go Super Sonic to boot.

This hack offers it all and then some, and you can still play the original version of the game from the main menu of you want to compare it to the DX version or if you prefer to do so. This hack definitely deserves the "Director's Cut" monicker based off of its own merits... But having the game's actual creator being the hack's author doesn't hurt it, either. Highly recommended.

I mean, how many times in history have you seen a romhack done by the original creator? The changes are extensive, and almost every one adds to the experience. This is a project done by someone truly passionate about the game they made.
