This is a hack of Dragon Warrior for the NES which doubles the experience and gold earned from battles. Internally, the hack also allows a 16-bit value to be earned for either (that is, more than 255). This doesn't affect the original game as no battle will go over 255 even after being doubled, but it can be used for anyone wishing to adjust experience/gold values of enemies in their own hack.Screenshots

This patch is absolutely necessary to enjoy the original version of Dragon Quest today. The original Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior is a grindfest, period. Even the Japanese authors realized it, therefore they increased (almost doubled) enemy experience and gold in every subsequent port. Furthermore, this patch is compatible with the superlative Delocalization Patch by the Translation Quest team, but then it will not be accepted by every emulator (in my experience: FCEUX will run it, but JNES will not). | |||

I'm halfway through the game now and this hack is working as advertised. You still have to grind, but it's not nearly as brutal as it was when I was a kid. Without this hack, I wouldn't be replaying this on the NES. I added the Updated Command Menu patch on top of this, so far there haven't been any issues. | |||

This hack is great if you want to reduce a bit of the grind off this game - without resorting to other cheats that distort the original flow of the game. Because it is a small hack, it is fully compatible with many other DW1 rom hacks (and the Monster Stat editor). It worked fine for me with the Delocalized and Dragoon X Omega hacks. | |||
