First of all, Project Base is one of my favorite hacks. Kudos to begrimed and all the good work he has done.

I was truly excited about this update based on past notes put out by begrimed about his plans for the future. Unfortunately a lot of that stuff (full customization, difficulty modes) hasn't happened yet but hopefully is still in the works.

For 7.3, what we see are primarily graphical and physics touches. The graphical polishing I appreciate, particularly the subtle changes to backgrounds which occasionally stuck out awkwardly in the vanilla palette option for 0.7.2. I also like that begrimed has *partially* re-implemented the intro destruct sequence. I'm not sure why we have the timer but we are still lacking the sirens and falling debris.

In any case, all was well with this until I noticed that certain boss battles have become pitifully easy after this update. Spore Spawn dying in about 10 seconds really disappointed me. This adds to the existing problem of how much easier the increased rate of fire makes the game. The proposed difficult version of this hack is long overdue. I'm frequently going back to the uglier original only because of these difficulty issues. Speed running is a very cool thing but don't forget about the rest of us.
