| It was extremely primitive before and good now | holaamiga | 2023-11-21 | Version 3.1 |
This encouraged me to complete Castlevania1 for the first time so I recommend it. I will probably try it mixed with other hacks now that it has compatibility.
| A Must-Have improvement | NoReason | 2023-11-20 | Version 3.1 |
This makes falling into holes from getting smacked by Medusa Heads a thing of the past! That alone makes it worth a download. The jumps are smooth, implemented correctly, and don't feel out of place at all. Getting a small bump when damaged instead of a huge knock back changes the game to be much less frustrating and it should have been that way from the start in my opinion. Jumping onto and off of stairs provides new strategies and adds a feeling of polish to the game play This hack is so essential to my enjoyment of this game now that I won't play another hack unless it is compatible with this one. Luckily, this hack is compatible with almost every other hack I have tried.
| Very good improvements, but..... | Persephone | 2020-10-09 | Version 3.0 |
This is one of the best hack for original Castlevania. With this improvements, I could manage to beat the game easier than usual. Especially when you got a "surprise attack" from a flying enemy like bat or medusa head. Normally, when you jump above pit and those creatures suddenly appeared, most likely you will knocked out to the pit and death instantly, but with this hack, you can move forward to avoid that while in mid-air. Very good :D However, when I was playing Holy Relics with this hack, I found something funny, and coincidentally, in my first play. When you found a stairs that near the top of the map, and proceed to "stair landing" on there, sometimes it will make you go up but not to the next area. Instead, you will appear from the bottom of the map, still on "walk in stair" animation, and the game will CRASH Don't believe me? | Stair Glitching for Ultimate | OrangeCrush666 | 2020-06-15 | Version 3.0 |
I was playing the "Ultimate Castlevania" with the patches and the movement is great. The issue unfortunately is the stair glitch. I tried various patches and used the recommended "control-catch-vcancel-inertia". When enabling inertia in any of the 3 folders, they ignore stairs entirely and go up random walls that lead you to a glitch map. If you select any of the options that don't have inertia they go up the stairs but keep on going up till you again reach a glitched map. I'm not sure if it is only for "Ultimate Castlevania" as of yet but I recommend a pass for this patch until fixed.
| This Feels Sooo Good! | chuckingdice | 2019-02-15 | Version 1.0 |
This hack makes it feel like I'm driving a sports car, and making pin point turns at unbelievable speeds. Do I recommend this hack, a million times YES! I can beat the game without the improved controls, but I'll admit it's better to play with these controls. It's like the original game was meant to have these controls. It's like I'm playing 8 bit Rondo of Blood!
| A Huge Game-Changer | Eldrethor | 2018-10-05 | Version 1.0 |
Back in the NES days, developers often depended on some very punishing game mechanics as a way to extend the overall life of their games, and the clunky jumps in the Castlevania series is no exception. Tricky situations with narrow platforms and flying enemies would be trivial to a character with tighter controls (e.g. Megaman) but are outright dangerous to a Belmont, even when armed with a fully-primed whip and a decent sub-weapon. This hack has a two-fold effect on the overall game. On the surface, the hack gives players a much greater range of control over both your direction while in midair, and the height of your jump, and this is a tremendous quality-of-life change. Simon's jumps feel tight, even when attacking in midair, and this is very much like how other Belmonts play in the later games. This is especially apparent when trying to evade flying enemies and Medusa Heads while traversing moving platforms. As a result of the tighter controls, the game truly shines through its level and enemy designs, and each level becomes a much more enjoyable romp. The quality of the game's difficulty shifts as well, and I began to notice that the challenge was coming from the overall nuances that each level had to offer, instead of just the poor jump mechanics. This hacks is a solid 10/10, transforming a good game into a well-designed game, and it easily stands out as a superior improvement over the base game.
| A lot more enjoyable | telmo | 2018-03-18 | Version 1.0 |
In my opinion this hack makes the game a lot more enjoyable, even though some parts are still very much rage inducing. lol
| Great hack for a great game | TheNitroFlamer | 2018-03-17 | Version 1.0 |
Castlevania is a fun game, but a huge issue was the stiff jump controls which lead to alot of unfair hits or at worst, death. This , along with the one for Akumajou Densetsu (Castlevania 3) completely rids this issue. Being able to influence direction in midair, the ability to control how high you jump, and even regaining control during knockback, which is a real lifesaver in itself. Overall these are simply great, fixing an issue which makes both games games much more fun to play. Now all we need is a hack like this for Castlevania 2. That would GREATLY fix alot of the bullcrap that game has.
| Gratest update | gordon81 | 2018-02-28 | Version 1.0 |
This patch bring back Castlevania Rondo of Blood (PCEngine) control style. More accurate, more addictive. It's all you need when you has played couple years to Castlevania I & III. Castlevania classic control it´s based in strategy... I could jump with enemy and get fare hearts?... the answer it's easy, Not. With new control patch you will play to Castlevania I & III as if they were new games. Fresh fresh fresh play game. I just want the same patch for Castlevania II... (camilas grave-cemetery jump) Thanks for these works.
